I came up with this concept about 1955. I have a picture of an old Marx electric train that I painted, weathered, and lettered SAC VALLEY on the tender.
The layout time frame is early 1950's. Always wishfully thinking the Frisco still was running steam, but also at the same time had GP-35 diesels which didn't come along until 1964 or so. I have one I detailed (with sound) - that has to run on the layout. I like those black torpedo boats! Some of the later GP-35's were really neat as they used the trucks from the early Frisco ALCO A & B units. Talk about an individualistic group of engines.
Where the two railroads meet at the junction you'll be able to see both Frisco steam and early diesels. On the Sac Valley, there is only steam - and some strange, illogical rigs at that. Check out the heading above.
