Software thoughts

As a software professional for over 20 years I have experience in both designing, coding, debugging, installing, training and teaching software.  That said, let me say, "There is NO one software application for any job that will satisfy any one user."

It's like your old comfortable shoes or shirt.  If it doesn't fit, you will itch, wear blisters etc. The longer you try to use it the worse they will get.

Don't take someone else's word for it.  Try several.  The internet has made this SO simple.  Most companies have a free download trial package.  It's worth it to get hold of them and LEARN them. THEN try the SAME project on each package.  Most of the time you won't have to go that far. Then and only then will you know what YOU like.  Not what some other 'expert' in that particular field likes.

"Technology makes our life simpler" is something that is a LIE! Technology lets us do more, enjoy more, but it's certainly not simpler!

Two 'bewares' to beware of:

I can go on a rant about either of these, but enough said, OK?

A good software index for model railroaders. It also has a scale speed calculator on the bottom of the page, it's independent of scale.

This page is a web ring for model railroad software companies. If you want model railroad software - this is the place to look!
