Foam Modules

index

As I said on the why page, I have tried to build foam modules for portability in layout construction before.  Although I could see good things in the concept, due to a lack of experience working with the materials, or concepts, and a lack of materials adapted to the concept, I was less than successful.  When I started investigating the state of the hobby this go around I found quite a bit of materials and information at the Woodland Scenic area in the local hobby shop.  This, their advertising, and web site convinced me that I should try this concept again.

You won't believe how light a 2x4 module can be constructed and still the trains are quite happy with it.

Like all new developing technologies, it takes some shifts in how you are doing things and how you think about them, but for me, carpentry is no fun.  So far the foam construction is quicker, cleaner, lighter, safer, more accurate, and more satisfactory.  I may change my tune when I start mounting track or running trains in a big way, but that's to be yet discovered.  Stay tuned.
