More about Kiwanis of Murray
The Kiwanis Club of Murray takes joy and
pride in helping make our community a better place to live, and we welcome
people that can provide new ideas and a fresh approach to our Kiwanis service
to Murray and Calloway County.
For over 40 years, the Kiwanis Club of Murray
has focused on giving. A gift may take many forms—that of money, effort, time,
compassionate association, or a number of other aspects. One way to be a giver
is to become associated with a civic club in the community. If you would like

meetings.

Brief Facts about Kiwanis
Murray Kiwanis Club was chartered in 1960, and is
part of the Kiwanis International association of people. Kiwanis International began in 1915 in Detroit, Michigan
and quickly spread. Today there are more
than 8,400 Kiwanis clubs with nearly 280,000 members in 96 nations and
geographic areas. The name
"Kiwanis" was coined from an expression in an American Indian
language of the Detroit
area, Nunc Kee-wanis,
which means, "we trade" or "we have a
good time."
The "Objects of Kiwanis"
The membership assembled at the 1924 Kiwanis International convention
adopted a set of abiding principles to guide the organization. These have
remained unchanged for over 80 years. Though phrased in older language, Kiwanians feel they are still relevant. They are:
- To give primacy to the human
and spiritual rather than the material values of life.
- To encourage the daily living
of the Golden Rule in all human relationships.
- To promote the adoption and
the application of higher social, business, and professional standards.
- To develop, by precept and
example, a more intelligent, aggressive, and serviceable citizenship.
- To provide, through Kiwanis
clubs, a practical means to form enduring friendships, to render
altruistic service, and to build better communities.
- To cooperate in creating and
maintaining that sound public opinion and high idealism which make
possible the increase of righteousness, justice, patriotism, and good will.
