Directions to Ham Radio testing site at Murray
State University,
Collins Center for Industry & Technology
room 237. Same location is used for MSU Amateur Radio Club meetings.
- Entering Murray from north of town, via U.S. 641 (it's
also known as 12th Street in town): go straight through the traffic light
at the Wal-Mart entrance, the light just before the university football
stadium, and the new light in front of the football stadium and Cracker
Barrel (Wal-Mart and the football stadium are both to your right as you
head southbound, Cracker Barrel is on the left).
- Turn right at the next
traffic light onto Chestnut
Street. This is at a corner with Hardee's Restaurant on the right.
- Go about 3 blocks West (but
the cross streets aren't obvious, so don't bother counting them). You'll
pass tennis courts on the left and some MSU dormitories on the right.
Chestnut Street will then take a curve and dip to go under a pedestrian
overpass walkway. After clearing the curve, take the first left, which is
the entrance drive to the parking lot for the Collins Center
for Industry & Technology (a modernistic building with two prominent
geodesic domes). Follow the drive to the left down into the parking lot.
If you go all the way to the traffic light at 16th Street you've gone
too far.
- To find your way to the
exam/meeting room the first time, it's easiest to park at the far East end of the lot and climb the stairs up to the
pedestrian walkway that you just drove under. Then walk South (turn right)
a couple hundred feet and turn right again to take the walkway onto the Industry & Technology
Building
"patio".
- Take the far right doorway
into the East end of the building (look up and you'll see a trap-vertical
antenna on the roof overhead near the dome). Room 237 is to your right.
- In case you can read it, a map in gif format is available.
- If entering from the south of Murray,
via U.S. 641: 641 is
also known as 12th Street
in Murray.
Go through the first 5 traffic lights (if I've counted right) and turn
left at the 6th light onto Chestnut
Street, heading West.
You'll see a Pizza Hut Restaurant at this intersection on the right, and Hardee's across the intersection on the left. Then
follow paragraphs 3-6 above.
- If entering Murray
from the east on KY 94: 94 is
also known as Main Street
in Murray.
There are several ways to get to the I&T
building, so this is just one. Follow Main Street past the Courthouse Square
all the way to 12th Street
(also marked as U.S. 641, at a traffic light). Turn right (North) onto
12th Street/U.S. 641. Proceed through the next light and turn left at the
second light onto Chestnut
Street, heading West.
You'll see a Pizza Hut Restaurant at this intersection on the right, and Hardee's across the intersection on the left. Then
follow paragraphs 3-6 above. If you're familiar with town and can get to
the MSU campus better another way, do that. Once into the
I&T parking lot, you can use paragraphs 4-6 to find the room.
- If entering Murray
from the west on KY 94: 94 is
also known as Main Street
in Murray.
The easiest way to find I&T from this
direction is to turn left at the first traffic light, onto 16th Street.
Proceed North on 16th Street until the next traffic light, and turn right,
onto Chestnut Street. The I&T building is immediately on your right;
turn right at the first driveway and follow the drive down into the
parking lot to your left. Once into the I&T
parking lot, you can use paragraphs 4-6 above to find the room.
- If entering Murray from the northwest on KY 121: stay on 121 bypass
until the second traffic light, which is at 16th Street. A convenience store
will be on your left at this intersection. Turn right (South) onto 16th Street.
Go to the next traffic light, at the intersection of 16th and Chestnut
(also known as “5 points”), and turn left onto Chestnut. The I&T
building is immediately on your right; turn right at the driveway and
follow the drive down into the parking lot to your left. Once into the I&T parking lot, you can use paragraphs 4-6 to
find the room. If you already know your way around Murray and know how to take the Coldwater Road
shortcut to 16th & Chestnut (also known as "5 points"),
that's fine to do. Then bear left
at 5 points onto Chestnut
Street, and turn right into I&T.
