Wartburg AAUP has played a critical role on campus for the last fifteen years. Standing on AAUP principles, the chapter has worked for
- fairer treatment of junior faculty,
- improved faculty personnel procedures,
- improved grievance procedures,
- faculty involvement in the routine evaluation of administrators,
- faculty participation in administrative searches,
- faculty participation in decisions related to budget and institutional planning,
- improvements to the faculty handbook, and
- competitive faculty compensation packages.
We have provided a voice for the faculty when administrative actions have been inconsistent with the principles of shared governance and academic due process. And by sponsoring forums and publishing a faculty newsletter, we have tried to raise faculty, board, and administration awareness of best practice standards in higher education.
In 1994 at the Association's Annual Meeting in Washington, D.C., the Wartburg Chapter of the AAUP received the Beatrice G. Konheim Award for Outstanding Chapter in the Nation, given in recognition of its "vigorous defense of faculty rights."
