For both first time and long time dog owners!
I can state, unequivocally, after picking up the remains of throw-away dogs, NO dummies should own dogs. Only people who care enough to learn to do things right should be responsible for the life of a living creature. The good news is that you’ll prove, by buying Choosing a Dog for Dummies, you’re not a dummy!
Over the years, I have learned one thing that is more important than anything else when it comes to dog ownership. If the owners are miserable, the dog will be miserable too. And when they’re happy, so is the dog! So my aim is to make sure everyone understands from the get-go what they are in for when they buy a pet.
Through owners telling all (the good, the bad and the ugly) about their breeds, a prospective buyer knows up front what to expect. Neatniks know which shed. Allergy sufferers can sort through the less sneeze-provoking breeds. A Komondor lover can tell you which end is for kissing and which one is for clean-up.
Choosing a Dog for Dummies -- the book that’s going to help you find a four-footed soulmate, a companion, a show dog, whatever you’re looking for. It gives answers to your questions, and it also gives questions for you to ask a breeder. If you’re interested in adoption, it’ll help you with this choice also.
But Choosing a Dog for Dummies isn’t only for those who are starting out. Even if you know it all, this book is also helpful for humane society staffs and those who are looking for a second breed or those who do breed referrals.
Once someone knows you’re “in dogs,” whether you own Malamutes or Redbone Coonhounds, they’ll assume you know everything about Pugs. Now you can at least act like you’re an expert on every breed by having a copy of Choosing a Dog on hand. Even though I’ve been part of the dog world since 1965, I still need help when discussing breeds other than my own. So I picked the brains of people who are experts in their particular breeds and synopsized years of experience into a page on each AKC breed, with a few extra for spice.
The sneak preview brought the following comments:
