Preadmission and Orientation Group

The preadmission and orientation group at United Community Services Inc. is a program designed to provide an immediate connection to a treatment facility rather than to be placed on a waiting list. This will involve individuals in need of substance abuse treatment immediately in a positive group process.

There will be a brief orientation group the prospective client will attend prior to their first group that will be held each Monday at 5:30 and Thursday 9:30 AM. It is at this time that a determination will be made which of the preadmission groups the individual will be placed in. This determination will be based on the individual needs and the size of the groups themselves.

The preadmission groups themselves will meet that each Monday for a maximum of 8 weeks from 5:30 PM to 7:00 PM and a second group will be offered Thursday mornings from 9:30 AM to 11:00 AM. The cost of each group will be $10 for each group attended and will be collected prior to the start of each group.

The process of the orientation group will involve orientation to treatment expectations and procedure at UCS. The preadmission group will be way to involve individuals immediately into a treatment orientated group setting as well as encourage each individual to identify their motivation for change, short term goals, long term goals, and their strengths they can call upon to achieve their goals.

During this preadmission process the facilitating counselor will evaluate the individual need for treatment and will process those individual with the greatest need for treatment into the regular IOP and EOP groups.

The preadmission groups, in the eight week span, will cover such topics as addiction vs. abuse, stages of change, goal setting, art therapy, accountability, thinking errors, shame and guilt, and relapse dynamics.
