Hello, my name is Kathrine Williams. Many of my friends call me 'Kat' for short. I am thirteen years old and attend I-C St. Joe's in Gilbertville, Iowa. I wrestle year round and have dedicated myself to becoming the best wrestler I can. If you wrestle, keep your eyes open as I travel to where ever the competition is – USA, Canada, and even Europe!

I am a current US National Champion, and am the only girl to ever win USA Wrestling’s Northern Plains Regional as well as the first-ever girl to be an IWF Triple Crown Winner. In the spring of 2004 I won my first tournament in Europe – the Copenhagen Cup. I plan on making more trips in the near future. I have also wrestled in Norway twice.

My dad acts as my primary coach and trainer.  We do a lot of training including running, lifting, and drilling.  My dad is a Silver-level certified coach through USA Wrestling and is working on his Gold-level. He is also currently the Women's Director for the Iowa Wrestling Federation.

 

I train at the Dan Gable Wrestling Complex in Hawkeye-Carver Arena, University of Iowa. I am a proud member of the Hawkeye Kids Wrestling School and represent them wherever I wrestle. Pablo Ubasa and Mike Duroe really help me out as a wrestler and the private instruction I get from them really makes a difference. I also appreciate the members of the Iowa Hawkeyes wrestling team who make me feel welcome when I train in their facility. Their place is the best! Thanks to Dan Gable too. Sometimes he gives me pointers – WOW!

 

This school year we are hosted a foreign exchange student. Sarianne Savola is her name and she is from Finland. She has been very successful in Europe and even more so now that she has trained and travelled with us. She did really well with the folkstyle wrestling and was a terror in freestyle when we wrestled in Canada. When we showed up in the Hawkeye black and gold, they soon found out what Iowa wrestling was all about! lol
