The Tornadoes

 
 



The Tornadoes have been together for well over a dozen years, taking on a few different forms over the years, but always with a core of Dan Berkowitz (bass), Bob Goffstein (guitar) and Jim Rossen (harmonica). Drummer Rich Paterson has been the band’s go-to drummer over the years. The band was also fortunate to work with gifted vocalist Jacqueline Krain, who left the band for other pursuits in November 2008.


The Tornadoes play music by such artists as Muddy Waters, Willie Dixon, Little Walter, Otis Rush, Freddie King, Louis Jordan, B.B. King, Little Charlie & the Nightcats and the Fabulous Thuderbirds.


Band members have been performing together since 1997, when they met at the legendary Iowa City Blues Jam. They bring experiences from playing blues on the West Coast, the Midwest, and all around. Their venues are mostly based in in eastern Iowa, with occasional ventures to Des Moines as well as neighboring states.


The Tornadoes have performed in Iowa City’s Friday Night Concert Series, the Des Moines Arts Fest, The Blue Band’s New Year’s Eve Blues Bash, the Iowa City Jazz Festival, Coralville’s Music in the Park Series, the Friday Night Concert Series in Ottumwa. They have opened for Lonnie Brooks in the Quad Cities and for Larry McCray in Cedar Rapids. The band has also played at a variety of private functions throughout the region.
