Darrell and Rebas white 1979 Spitfire page.

This page has a couple of pictures of our 1979 Spitfire. This is the one my wife drives daily. While it is a very sweat ride it did have a couple of issues when we first brought it home.

For one it would not run, no fire at all. This turned out to be a combination of problems. First was the fact that the points had a broken wire. Hold on, did I just say points? In a 1979? Yep. At some time in the past someone had installed a Mallory after market distributer in this car. Broken wire repaired, there was still no fire.

Also, there was no fuel smell at the carburator. Hmmm....I hoped that the fuel lines were not clogged. As it turned out the issue was a cracked fuel line just before the fuel pump, so that the pump was sucking air. After replacing the fuel lines the car fired and ran as soon as fuel made it to the carb.

This thing had a very odd combination of original rims on it when we got it home. For some reason it had two 4.5 inch rims and two 4.0 inch ones. Not sure why. Since then everything has been evened out, so that all four rims are 4.5 inches wide.

The roof (hood) and the interior were almost new. The paint was recent, but looked to be from a low end paint shop.
