Tips
Sort your items first. Organize them second.
Keep items nearest to the point where you will use them. For example: keep extra paper by the printer.
Determine the purpose of/activities that occur in the space you are organizing.
Keep all project materials in one basket/bin.
Try new systems for at least 2 weeks.
Categorize and label.
Write things down; make lists.
Regularly spend some time working toward your goal, even if it is only 15 minutes. Accomplishing a goal is like climbing a staircase -- you have to do it one step at a time.
Get rid of duplicates unless necessary.
Drawer dividers keep small items (i.e. floss, makeup,...) in order and easily accessible.
Only often used items should have counter/desk space.
Straighten your desk at the end of each day and especially at the end of each week.
Sort items in the kitchen by zones: preparation, cooking, baking, serving, and cleaning.
Small corner shelves, meant for the wall, fit nicely into the bathroom counter corners.
Use a 3-ring binder (w/plastic sleeves, if needed) to organize instructions/manuals.
Mount a long magnet along the back of your medicine cabinet to hold tweezers, clippers, little scissors and other small metal objects.
A three-tiered hanging basket works as well in the corner of the bathroom as it does in the kitchen.
Post a list of all the spices on hand on the inside of the cupboard door. That way you will know at a glance if you have what a recipe requires.
Decide how long to keep periodicals and stick with it
Sort mail regularly.
Go through files (paper and computer) regularly.
