Bloody Valentine - Earth Forces attacked the Plant
colony Junius 7 (a farming colony) with Nuclear
force. Killing innocent men, women and children,
sparking the war.



Plant- The name for the colonies the coordinators
live upon. Located at Lagrange 5. There are hundreds
of colonies grouped together.


Zaft- better known as Zodiac Alliance of Freedom
Treaty. Is the Coordinator army at war with the
Earth Alliance.


Earth Alliance - A large group of individuals, mostly on
Earth, that are anit-Coordinator. The believe that genetic
manipulation is wrong. And are angry with the superior
technology the Coordinators have created for themselves.


Natural - A human born by natural means.


Coordinator - A genetically enhanced person. There
are three generations of Coordinators since manipulation
began. A 1st generation Coordinator is one who's parents
are naturals, he is the first to be enhanced. A 2nd generation
is not modified, but was born of two parents who are both
Coordinators. A 3rd is one who is born to 2nd generation
parents. There have been complications as a result 3rd
generation Coordinators are unable to reproduce with another
3rd generation. Most Coordinators that are alive in the current
C.E. are of 2nd and 3rd generation. There are very few 1st
generation produced.

How the story begins...

Cosmic Era 70. Following the tragedy of "Bloody Valentine" the tension between the Earth and Plant immediately developed into serious military engagements. Earth forces greatly out numbered  Zaft, making many to believe Earth would claim victory... but despite the predictions the war became drawn out, with eleven months having passed by.

Heliopolis

The series starts off on the neutral colony Heliopolis, Cosmic Era 71, where a young boy by the name of Kira Yamato is attending engineering school. Everyone within the colony is having a normal day. They had no clue that their neutral nation Orb had decided to help the Earth Alliance with their fight against Zaft. Orb had built and was storing five Gundams and a battleship within the colony.  Zaft had acquired the classified information and was infiltrating the colony to steal the Gundams and to destroy the battleship, but things go wrong.
