The microprocessor is the major component of any mother board. It can be thought of as the "brains" of the computer system, because it reads, interprets, and executes software instructions, and also carries out arithmetic and logical operations for the system. Microprocessor manufacturers and third-party IC makers produce microprocessor-support chipsets that provide auxiliary services for each type of microprocessor.
