Composites
What holds this thing together, anyway?! I am far from an expert, but I thought you might be interested in a little work that I have done, and just for grins, I'll include a few good links. The pickings here might be a little sparse right now, but as time goes on I'll add some good resources for the amateur aircraft construction.
Composite construction has been around for a long time and the word "composite" simply means different materials (duhh!). I guess a definition would be a combination of different materials, taken individually not having useful properties, and when combined produce a strong lightweight part. For example, styrofoam, epoxy, and fiberglass when properly combined, can turn out to be an airplane.
My master's thesis was about composite construction, as it relates to homebuilders.
