These students also serve as ambassadors for community events which Dr. Roberts hosts in our district. They guide people to the event, help them with their refreshments, and most important they talk with the community members about the Abingdon Schools and their experiences in our schools. Each cabinet chooses a yearly community service project. For the past two years, the High School Cabinet has held a “Community Service Day” in which they fulfill labor-intensive projects in our community. The Middle School Cabinet has collected soda pop cans in their building for the past two years for recycling to help the local public library buy books. Fun is also included in each group’s yearly schedule. In January they travel to a nearby ski resort on a day school ends at noon to ski until nine p.m. While they come home somewhat battered and sore, this is a favorite Cabinet activity. They met for a before-school picnic in August. Other events are scheduled as the year progresses. Each spring the existing Cabinet Members help choose the new members for the following year. If a Cabinet Member wishes to remain on the Cabinet from year-to-year, they are given first “seat” for the following year.
