Here's Laurel and Hardy:
................................What a Match !!

Stanley OllieLine

Laurel and Hardy are one of the most recognized comedy teams in screen history, yet little is known about how their off-screen and private lives sometimes took not-so-funny turns with them. They have had to cope with multiple marriage failures, depression, health, and more. Although these ordeals framed their lives throughout their careers, they were able to put them aside when performing on the silver screen. And it may be noted that there also were wonderful times in their private lives.

Hal Roach, a producer in the twenties, recognized a success story in the making when he decided they should work as a team, using their contrasting sizes as props. The creative energy of the comedy team, however, belonged to Stan Laurel. Laurel and Hardy grew to become very close, (brother-like), friends. They loved each other dearly that way.

Off-screen, the personae that Stan Laurel and Oliver "Babe" Hardy reflected two men who indeed loved life, were gentle, funny, and kind to others.

On-screen, they created a wonderful diversion from the hard times with their zany and always funny antics. We are fortunate that a comedy team such as Laurel and Hardy walked across the silver screen so many years ago, making laughter. And it is fortunate, that with technology and preservation techniques, we have been laughing ever since.
