If you thought Tanarus or Doom was neat, you will LOVE TreadMarks! ... When Tanarus went to a subscribe and 'pay to play' I left, I didn't play it often enough to justify paying for it... BUT.. Treadmarks.... if you like Doom II, Tanarus, tanks, deathmatches, team play, racing, cature the flag, or even chatting, this is totally awesome (and I am 45 yrs old!). TreadMarks Cool game, you can go solo, or you can join up a team online or off, great fun. Whats really great, is you can edit the program all you want, change flags, scenery, sounds, the game is made that way on purpose, (VERY user friendly). It's a quite inexpensive game downloadable for only $19.00 AND with no monthly fee for the use.. you can even host your own internet server for the game (I'm playing with that now). Easy as pie without too much puter skill, (my 6 yr old daughter has played!)and what else is neat, at least for me, it doesn't require all that mega expensive memory, chips or video graphics, it will run on that old puter in the basement, and works great on a modem just as well as DSL. I mean really, if you want expensive graphics and things, get a Gamecube or Nintendo. There are many different arenas/maps to battle in, many cool weapons and the neat thing is that anyone can be great at it, (who can argue with you when you get a hold of a nuke). It has it's own built in chat program so you can communicate with team mates (or enemies.. and yes, the language is clean), online you will find ages from 8 to 70! I personally like the chatting, normally I get online, say hi to everyone then commence to shoot at them... (seems kind of weird), I have never met a more friendlier bunch, and what a great way to unwind after work.
There is a free demo that not only can you play the game, but you can get right online with...NOW! With the full version you get many more tanks, really cool ones, lots of extra maps, and all the bells and whistles. The game has a ton of cool weapons (each with their own advantages and disadvantages). And it's EASY to use.
Of all the games I have played... THIS ONE is IT for me!
NOW, important, if you want to try this, and get this free demo, (or the full version), the best place to start (of course after the training map to get used to things) is go to the multiplayer, then on the 'connect to' screen, click the 'LDA' or 'LDA Stock Server', then hit connect. Thats the best place to start, tell people hi (they will normally say hi to you though... hit the 'C' button to open up a chat, type your message (Hi, I'm new here') and hit 'enter')... You'll have a great time.
