First Minnesota Light Artillery


Organized at Fort Snelling, Minn., November 21, 1861.
Expedition to Eastport, Miss., and Chickasaw, Ala., April 1, 1862.
Battle of Shiloh, Tenn., April 6-7.
Advance on and siege of Corinth, Miss., April 29-May 30.
Battle of Corinth October 3-4.
Pursuit to Ripley October 5-12.
Siege of Vicksburg May 18-July 4.
Assaults on Vicksburg May 19 and 22.
Surrender of Vicksburg July 4.
Duty at Vicksburg until April, 1864. Assault on Kenesaw June 27.
Battle of Atlanta July 22.
Siege of Atlanta July 22-August 25.
Ezra Chapel, Hood's second sortie, July 28.
Flank movement on Jonesboro August 25-30.
Battle of Jonesboro August 31-September 1.
March to the sea November 15-December 10.
March to Washington, D.C., via Richmond, Va., April 29-May 30.
Grand Review May 24.
Mustered out July 1, 1865.


Between all of us researching the unit, we have many pictures and information that we would love to exchange with anyone having connections to the battery.

of course... myself Roger My GreatGrandfather was WZ Clayton of the 1st Minnesota Battery, Light Artillery.

Alex GrzywackiAlex Grzywacki has been researching The First Minnesota Battery, Light Artillery for about 9 years now. He is trying to gather as many photos as he can... if you have any that you would like to exchange please email him. His ancestor was Henry Frey, the unit articifer. Just as a side note Alex has a Reunion coming up next year in April(2005). It will be for all the interested people who had a relative in the Battery at the Battle of Shiloh (April 1862) So far alex has eight people who are connected. Anyone interested can e-mail Alex.

Peggy Burke is looking for information on her ancestor Lt. Pfaender who was with the unit in the earlier years of 1861 and 1862

Bob Duncan is a historian that is researching the unit.

Vicky & Tom Wendel reenact the 2nd Minnesota Light Artillery, and do alot of research on the 2nd also.
