The following files were scanned from the remnants of a book that apparently was a copy of "The History of Polk County, Iowa" published by the Union Historical Company, Birdsall, Williams & Co. 1880. I used an HPScanjet 3200C to scan, OmniPage Pro10 OCR software to convert to text and WordPerfect 6.1 to edit and save to ASCII (DOS) delimited text. All margins are 1", the font is Times New Roman and the size is 12pt. I have maintained the paging as in the original. The page numbers and headings are from the original although not necessarily in the same position as the original.

The files contain information about the people who were in Polk Co. prior to 1880, their family members, place of birth, travels before settling in Polk Co., Civil War information, businesses, churches, schools, civic organizations and much information about the beginnings of Polk Co. and Des Moines.
