1971 reunion

About the reunion

July 19, 1971

Dear Fellow Alumnae and Friends,

As a follow up on our recent Banquet and Homecoming, I would just like to say we missed you and are sorry you were unable to attend.

One hundred ninety-seven graduates attended the Banquet on Saturday night. The dining room of the Elks Club was attractively decorated with yellow and green feather bird cages, candles, and candle holders as table centerpieces. The evening proceeded with a short program and the drawing of some very nice door prizes donated by local merchants with our very own Sister St. Jude winning a baseball! The highlight of the evening though surely must have been the reminiscing and visiting about the fond memories at good ole St. Joe.

On Sunday, a total of 550 graduates and their families registered. The day was made to order as the weather was neither too hot nor too cool. There was a very light shower of short duration but needless to say this did not dampen the spirits of those present. It seemed rather strange to see fellow classmates walking around with their families trailing alongside. Again we had a program with recognition given to Anna Seaberg Cates of Whittier, California, and Carolyn Harden McGrath of Ottumwa, two members of the first graduating class 1917. Also to the person coming the farthest distance, Mary Swift Lyons of the class of 1940 from Newberg, Oregon. Sister Mary Suzanne was presented a ladies attache case from the alumnae. As the program drew to a close a few misty eyes could be spotted throughout the crowd.

I know that those who worked so hard to make this Homecoming a success felt it had all been worth while by the support they received when so many turned out and seemed to really enjoy themselves. I hope that although you were unable to attend you will still continue to support and remember St. Joe and the alumnae for I feel we all owe the Sisters, instructors, medical staff and all who had a part in our teachings much gratitude and support.

Sincerely,

Sharon Randell

(alumnae president)
