This web page is devoted to the street and neighborhood where I grew up in - the Garden Addition of Davenport, Iowa and

Pansy Avenue in particular. The following pictures will, in time, be a mixture of the past and present. At this time, I am still

searching for pictures of the old neighborhood, so if you are in possession of any photographs circa 1950-1990, please let me know!!

Pansy Avenue looking towards the West as of May 10th 2009. What was once a center of life for dozens of families through the years is now nothing more than a bulldozed flatland.

Water drainage pipe on Blackhawk Creek by Pansy Avenue as of May 10th 2009.

If you grew up here like I did, chances are you played on this thing at one time or another.

Blackhawk creek by Pansy Avenue as of May 10th 2009. I spent a lot of time playing on the banks of this creek. Crawdads were usually in abundance, and there were always plenty of minnows. Most of the time, there was so little water running through it that you barely got your feet wet if you walked across it. Other times, if it rained hard enough, it would transform into a rushing torrent of muddy water that was unforgiving to the careless. I remember sometime in the late sixties/early seventies when some poor kid was walking along the bank during high water and slipped and fell in. I was there when they pulled his body out of the water. He never had a chance.
The spot where my family's house once stood at 3227 Pansy Avenue. I called this spot home from the day I came home from Mercy Hospital in 1961 till the day we moved in 1973.
A broader view of Pansy Avenue taken May 10th, 2009. Many families had homes along this street, including the Scotts, the Kitzmanns and a host of others whose names I no longer remember. If you lived in this area back in the sixties or seventies, please say hello! I'd love to hear from you!
