What this program will do for a teacher....
This is the section of the review I know the most about. I am a teacher. Here's why SmartMusic has my attention. Check out these two recordings.
| With SmartMusic | Without SmartMusic |
These two students were almost twins. Friends, same background, same previous schools, same amount of time practicing, same lesson group. The only difference that I could find is one used the program.
Will this program replace you the teacher? No. There is no program that can do that. We all know that music is more than the right note at the right time. But wouldn't it be nice if they knew their notes and rhythms before they got to rehearsal? SmartMusic can help with that.
SmartMusic will get your kid practicing more. We know that is a good thing. It can also help make sure they aren't practicing incorrectly. 30 repetitions of a wrong note can create a bad habit that will take a long time to undo.
Turns out SmartMusic is like a serious video game for serious musicians. This program encourages kids to play all the right notes at the right time with near instant feedback. It encourages critical thinking about the student's performance. It is as challenging as you can (or want to) handle. A fun way to build technic. Turns out it is good pedagogy too, if you think of it as a video game.
Be prepared for the kids that want to kick you off of your computer so they can get a better score.
