Work Order Writer for Windows is a Win95/98/ME based program, which allows you to create, store, report on and print professional Service Work Orders.
The software also allows for work order status tracking, client equipment vital info (such as make and model #s) and status, and a customizable, filterable report generator
Compact, easy to learn and affordable, Work Order Writer is an excellent choice for small (and not so small) businesses involved in Property Management, building trades, contractors (plumbers, electricians, maintenance and repair, HVAC) computer, business machine or appliance repair, even home and office cleaners, carpet cleaners, pest control, lawn care pros, virtually any service call oriented business.
Most work is done right from the main window, which is divided into two sections. The upper half is the Client area and the lower half is the Work Order area
The Client area consists of a list box on the left, containing your client or customer names. Clients can be selected by either clicking on a name in the list, or you may begin typing the name in the box above the list and the program will automatically look up the first name that matches what you have typed.
When a client is selected, the billing info for that client appears in the boxes to the right. Below the address info is an area for the name and phone number of your usual contact at that company. To the far right are buttons allowing you to Add a new client or Edit the existing client. The listed equipment for the client and past work orders are also retrieved and entered in the Equipment Tab and the Work Order Tab of the lower Work Order area
The lower half of the window is the Work Order area. The three Tabs on the top allow you to navigate through the current work order, the job site info and the client's previously listed equipment. When you select a client from the client list, most of the fields on the Contact tab of the work order area are filled in for you. You may change this information if necessary. The Work Order tab affords an area for the Date the work order is written, which defaults to today's date, the promised date, and a promised time. Dates can be entered in standard mm/dd/yyyy format or as a shortcut by using the mmddyy format (e.g. 021200 for Feb 12,2000) the leading zero in months through Sept must be used. Times may be entered as standard "2:45 pm" or shortcut using four digit 24 hr. times (e.g. 1823 for 6:23 PM). Again the leading zero for times before 10 AM are needed. To enter the equipment involved you can choose from a dropdown list of this client's previously entered equipment, type in an off-list entry or go to the Equipment tab and enter a new piece of equipment
The Work Order tab and the Equipment tab each have a Status frame where you can update the current status and date of the status change along with any pertinent notes. This is especially useful when compiling reports as you can see at a glance which work orders are still outstanding, waiting for parts, billed and not paid, etc. The "<" and ">" buttons on the right allow you to navigate through the existing work order records for this client - great for looking at repair histories. The other buttons allow you to Add a New work order for this client, Edit the current work order and Print the current work order. The Print button will first give you a preview of the Work Order and the option of printing or cancelling
Professional quality Work Orders may be printed out on standard letter size paper, for your technician or client (or both) and include -
