The Narrow Gate
poetry by Loren N. Horton
"The gate is narrow and the way is hard, that leads to life," Matthew says in the New Testament. A keen observer of the human race, Loren Horton has turned his musings -- on travel, humor, philosophy, music, religion, and life itself -- into this set of poems spanning fifty years of perceptive comment.
Loren N. Horton was Senior Historian of the State Historical Society of Iowa. His interests include the social history of the 19th century, particularly 19th-century travel diaries and funeral and burial customs in England and the United States. He is the author of a number of historical books and articles. Horton has also written plays and is presently at work on a mystery novel. He is also the author of A RICHER DUST CONCEALED (poetry) RARER GIFTS THAN GOLD (poetry and memoir) and IOWA'S PROUD HERITAGE (history) 106 pages, soft-cover. $19.99
