But Of Course They Were Irish

by Evelyn Sinclair Tierney

“My mother was only two weeks old when her family got to Monroe County.

I often wonder how they ever made it, but of course they were Irish.”

 – Alice Logan

 Third printing, soft-cover, 492 pages

$34.99

THIS EDITION CONTAINS ALL THE SAME CONTENT AS THE ORIGINAL HARDCOVER BOOK.

In the more than 20 years since BUT OF COURSE THEY WERE IRISH was first published, it has become known as the “Melrose bible.” In Melrose, Iowa, and wherever former residents have roamed, the book holds a place of honor, easily seen and quickly referred to whenever a question about Melrose needs answering.

Evelyn Sinclair Tierney was born in Monroe County, Iowa, and has lived most of her life in or near the small Irish community of Melrose – the setting of BUT OF COURSE THEY WERE IRISH. She is also the author of Items From the Bluegrass, a collection of columns and stories she wrote for local newspapers.
