GENERAL CONTEST
INFORMATION
The contest is open to any unmarried young lady who
is 16 through 23 years of age. Each
contestant will be known at the festival by the name of an area lake of her
choosing. A school, sorority, community,
Chamber of Commerce, Lodge, Jaycees, Lions, business or similar organization
must sponsor each contestant. The entry
fee is $95.00 if received before June 6th and $120 if received after that date
with checks made payable to the North Webster Lioness Club. The contestant can not be married, have ever
been married, or have had a child or be with child. Contestants can not be a professional model
(that is to earn your living by modeling).
The pageant is limited to 25 contestants so please plan to enter early
so you won’t be disappointed! THE
ENTRY DEADLINE IS JUNE 13th WITH NO EXCEPTIONS.
GOWNS AND SWIMSUITS
Contestants
will appear in swimsuits and full-length evening gowns. The gown should be one that reflects the
contestant’s individual personality. It
is important that the gown be comfortable in order that contestants maintain
poise and confidence. No hoop
skirts! The stage is crowded and hoop
skirts can make movement very difficult thus reflecting poor poise. Gowns with skirts split above the knee
and/or cut bodices are not acceptable.
These features will cause loss of judging points. Please keep in mind that the spotlights are
very bright. Please bring a slip,
particularly if your gown is either sheer or light in color.
Contestant’s
swimsuits must be one (1) piece and of solid color without jewels or
emblems. A regular suit with a scoop
back is desired. French cut legs and
cutout patterns are not acceptable.
The suit should be lined because of the bright lights. Hose or leg make-up is not allowed in the
swimsuit competition. Contestant’s shoes
should be pumps or sandals with a 2 to 3 inch heel for both the evening gown
and swimsuit competition. Practice in
your shoes to make yourself feel at ease before the pageant. Contestants will be walking on carpeted
areas.
MODELING INSTRUCTIONS
Walking
and turning instructions will be given during the practice session prior to the
judging for swimsuit and evening gown competition. Remember good posture is a must. Please practice walking slowly and gracefully
turning in the shoes you plan to wear before the contest so you can put your
best foot forward. Lastly, practice
smiling. A sincere, easy smile encourages
people to smile back.
PERSONAL INTERVIEW
On
contest day, please come dressed for the interviews that will start shortly
after 10 AM. Please dress as you would
for a job interview. You will want to
project a professional image to the judges.
Be sure to let your personality shine through being friendly and making eye
contact with the judges.
MAKE-UP
Make-up
is recommended for the competition, even if you normally do not wear makeup. Because of the lighting, you may look pale if
you do not wear some makeup. Perhaps
your hairdresser or a cosmetologist could help in this area.
HAIR
Please
keep in mind there are only 15 to 20 minutes between the swim suit and evening
gown competition to change thus there will not be much time to deal with a
fancy ‘do.’ The judges want to see what
you really look like and will be looking for a natural and lovely look.
JEWELRY
Minimal
jewelry such as small earrings, ring, or a lightweight necklace could be
worn. Don’t let your jewelry outshine
you.
JUDGING
Judging
for swimsuit and evening gown will be on a point system based upon 2 through 10
points for each of the following four categories:
1. Poise and self-confidence;
2.
Stance and hand position
3.
Carriage and body lines
4. Appearance
and figure.
Personal
interview points will be based upon the following four categories:
1. Attitude
2. Ability to converse
3. Friendliness
4. Poise and self-confidence.
