I named him Precious because of his personality, traits and disposition. He becomes more precious each
day. When I walk across the room and he calls out "Mama," it is enough to melt my heart! - I would
recommend this type of hand-fed parrot for anyone! Although lately, I have considered changing it to
Beakus because he is having some biting problems, probably puberty.
Precious starting calling me "Mama," after watching the movie "Bambi." You know the part, after
Bambi's Mama gets shot and Bambi runs out calling "Mama, Mama, Mama!" Soon after viewing that movie,
Precious, out of the blue, called out "Mama, Mama, Mama!" He wasn't mimicking, he related me to his
mother like Bambi.
Another humorous thing that happened was soon after I brought Darlin' home. All eyes were on Darlin' and
what this strange gray bird with a bright red tail was going to do. One day, not long after Darlin'
arrived at three months of age, he piped up and said, "Hello." It was a perfect 'Hello.' I was so
pleased, then all of a sudden I heard Precious say, "Shit, shit, shit." I almost fell down laughing! I
knew at that moment Precious knew that he was up against some competition!
UPDATE: 01/16/05-Over the last couple of years Precious has taken up with my housemate much to my dismay.
I think it is because after I lost my parents, I was lost in my own grief. Precious still needed
attention and Mar was there to give it to him. They are great buddies, but I am still his Mama.
