JoBubba and Susie

Mr. and Mrs. JoBubba

JoBubba is a green parakeet. Parakeets are the smallest of the parrot family.

As I was updating this page, I realized that I had written more on this little parrot than all of the others. I paid $12. for him in contrast to some of my parrots that cost in the thousands of dollars. My point? If you are looking for a wonderful feathered friend, you do not have to pay a lot of money. Even if you want a talking bird, most male parakeets will talk as long as you do not cage them with other birds and devote time with them, you will become their mate. They will be devoted to you. Cockatiel's are another favorite! Again, it is the male that is usually the talker and they are the most lovable birds!

If you really want a parrot, do your homework. Make sure you have the time to devote to them, they deserve it. Please remember that they are not like dogs are cats, they will capture your imagination and steal your heart, forever!

I will be adding more pictures. I want to get a new camera with a better zoom. You can see more of JoBubba and my other Critters at Webshots.

He talks incessantly. To be so small he is quick, smart and did not cost anything like my other birds. His favorite phrase is: "Come on, baby, give me sugar. Come on, Margaret." He has learned to talk from listening to the other birds and anything else he hears. Recently I started thinking about JoBubba being alone. I started feeling selfish. Even though he is a friendly little bird and a great talker, I think I was afraid if I ever put another bird in there he would stop talking. One day, it just didn't matter to me anymore. I felt sorry for him. Why should he be alone? So what if he stopped talking? He wasn't like the parrots, he didn't want me to hold him and love on him, just talk to him. So I bought him a pretty white and blue female. I just set the cages beside each other for about a week and observed. Dolly was really hot for him! So I took the plunge and she chased him all around the cage like that spinster chicken in the cartoon always after the big white rooster. They seem to be adapting and are very funny to watch. By the way, he still talks.

UPDATE: 9/9/2000-Sadly,I had to divorce Dolly and JoBubba. I still have Dolly. I think they are both bitter. Post script: I did find Dolly a good home.

Well, I have a lot of updating to do here...3/31/2002.

6/20/2002-Despite all JoBubba has been through, a divorce, losing the love of his life to cancer, I am happy to report that he is adjusting well. He and Precious are big buddies and he emulates a lot of Precious' mannerisms. (I sing to all of my pets, they all have their own special song. Nope, I can't carry a tune but they love it! A friend actually wanted to do a live web cam of the nightly feeding, cleaning and playing rituals! (I don't think so!)

UPDATE: 1/21/2003-JoBubba seems quite happy now. I finally got 'the bird room' finished and he is beside his buddy Precious. They all have lots of light, they can watch squirrels, an assortment of birds and other animals or watch TV, listen to radio, tapes. They have toys and well, they are loved and love fiercely.

UPDATE: October 28, 2003-I know I am crazy for birds but I have been thinking for sometime again about JoBubba's love life. If he had not known love before, it would not bother me because being a flock bird, they all relate to each other. Anyway, there is a cute little green Susie in isolation (my kitchen) for a few more days. But, he's on to me, they have been talking.

UPDATE: 1/21/2004-JoBubba and Susie seem to get along just fine. They are both green and she has the biggest eyes! All is well.

UPDATE: 3/22/2004-As you can see in the picture above, it's official, JoBubba and Susie tied the knot; presenting Mr. and Mrs. JoBubba.

UPDATE: 05/01/2004-Well, I got kind of excited. I thought Mr. and Mrs. JoBubba were going to have little ones. I got them a nesting box and everything. Does anyone know anything about the mating of parakeets? I had a book but I think I loaned it and never got it back. Please e-mail me!

UPDATE: 07/20/2004-No babies yet but the newly wed's seem to be doing fine.

UPDATE: 01/15/2005-JoBubba and Susie seem to be very happy together. When they were first newlyweds, he would not come to the cage and kiss me, or if he did he was always looking over his shoulder. Now he calls me by name and I go to the cage to 'give him sugar' as he tickles my lips with his tiny beak. I love this little parrot. As for Susie, she has never given me the opportunity to get to know her. I feel sure it is because she was never housed as a single bird.

I love birds!
