Cocoa is a blue fronted Amazon. He was a pre-owned bird. He is about seventeen years old and has a very gentle and humorous personality. I have had him since March of '98 (He was ten then). He has slowly learned to trust me, as much as I think he can. Although, knock on wood, I haven't been bitten in a long while. He only bites when he is startled or afraid. Although he has gradually learned to trust me and even enjoys riding on my shoulder and kissing me (yes, I am brave). I have a suspicion that he was abused somewhere down the line. Beautiful isn't he?
January 16, 2005-Cocoa only says a few words though Amazons are known to be some of the best talkers, I know it is in his past some where. He and Darlin' converse a lot. Cocoa has an amazing ability to use his voice inflections of even a single word so that 'Hello,' can mean twenty different things.
UPDATE: February 24, 2005-Just when I lest expect it, I am happily passing out Cheerio's, everyone taking the tiny morsels every so gingerly from my fingers when all of a sudden I come to Cocoa. Instead of taking the Cheerio for some unknown reason he takes a "v" bite out of my index finger. I have learned in these cases never to try to pull away, never to scream, just a stoic "Ouch!" until they let go, especially Cocoa. Believe me, the amount of strength in those beaks can cut a finger off. I don't even get angry any more though I really did not see this one coming at all. If you love parrots, expect it. They bite, who knows what goes on in those crafty minds of theirs.
Cocoa has a sweet and loving personality and loves my attention. He especially loves to ride on my shoulder. I truly love Cocoa, it is too bad that I didn't have him as a baby.
If you ever think about getting an Amazon, please know that they have to exercise their lungs for at least thirty minutes in the morning and in the evening. That this as a warning that this is not an apartment bird.
