Consider a Rescue Dog as a Pet

You may not think that an older dog would be as loving a companion, nor as fun, as a puppy. But, you're wrong. Older dogs can adapt to a new home, and with less work involved than a puppy. Most dogs adjust to their new "pack" with little of no problems. Why go through the hassle of cleaning up after a puppy, going through the "teething" of a puppy, or dealing with the energy of a new puppy? Skip all that, and give a rescue a new home. Rescues are dogs that have been retrieved from shelters, or pounds, where their previous owners have abandoned them. Some may have legitimately been lost but no owner has claimed them. "Rescue" people make it their life's work to get purebred dogs out, before they are killed. Most breeds have national associations that organize their rescue efforts. The AKC has a site for Breed Rescue Organizations . Contact the rescue organization for any breed you may be interested in, and find out how to adopt a rescue. Your heart will be all the fuller with the love of a rescue.
