1993 Floods

Record rainfall throughout the upper Midwest caused rivers across several states to rise well above flood stage. Often referred to as a 500-year flood, 1993 set new high-water marks in many cities, and caused record damage.

Michael W. Lemberger photographed the floodwaters of southeastern Iowa, along the Des Moines and Mississippi Rivers, for the Army Corps of Engineers.
