For Diane
Always smiling,
full of faith
a cat or two on her lap
purring her poems along,
she wrote.
I stopped believing in Fairy Tales long ago
she spun them like
old folks spinning yarns
making one wonder if she had been sprinkled
with magical dust from some mighty Fairy.
Knowing no boundaries
her mind full of beauty, strength, friendship
but most of all love,
she opened her heart to all.
True to her virtuous spirit
she battled a ravaging disease
never ceasing to be thankful for each day.
I see her smiling now; she did not lose her battle
she is at peace writing her poetry in the Heavens.
In memory of Alice Diane Ashley {July 15, 1940 - July 4, 2004),
my friend and mentor. 7/7/04
