
Comp 6.1 from team The Quick and The Dead
The challenge is to get your fastest lap in Free Run mode with these conditions:
Car - Toyota Altezza LM Race Car
Track - Grand Valley II
If you don't have the car, you can get it from the Altezza Championship (AMA), Vitz Race (PRO) , or the Laguna Seca 200 Endurance. I recommend the Altezza Championship, as it should take less than 45 minutes to beat easily.
Since the Altezza LM is a race car, you can customize it as much as you want (without changing the Turbo Upgrade beyond what you are allowed, of course).
I know the Altezza is not a very good car, but I bet it is the first time anyone has used it for a challenge (of course this is my first challenge, so I cant confirm this ). I remember tuning this car until 3am over a year ago to get it to turn better than a brick. After doing lap after lap on Grand Valley 2 to get it perfect, I realized how addicted I had gotten to this game. If it was not for this car, I might not be on this board today. I will always hold a special place in my heart for this crappy car

Lap Description

FYI: I used an automatic, so I cant really give out gear recommendations. Most of this will just be a description of the line I took through each of the turns. Also, I raced with the in car view.
I crossed the line at 162mph. Stay on the right until the first turn. Tap the brakes for a half second and turn left toward the inside curb. Stay off the gas until you can see the curb for the second part of the S-curve, than accelerate. As you exit the turn, get to the right side of the track to be ready for the next sharp turn. You should be above 150mph at the end of the straight. For the sharp turn at the end of the straight, stay to the right until you are at the turn. Brake hard and turn in so you are on the left side of the road on exit. Now just tap the brakes to get the car some more grip in the next turn. If you have taken the right line, you should be able to accelerate through the second part of this S-curve. Dont worry about going wide since there is plenty of room to get ready for the next turn.
1st Split: 20.632
Stay in the middle of the road before you enter the tunnel. Turn left in the tunnel, trying to get as close to the wall as possible. Right before your car starts to slide to the outside, let off on the gas for a split second. Accelerate through the rest of the turn. If you let off the gas for the right amount of time, you will slide to the outside wall carrying a lot of speed for the next straight, and you wont slam into the wall. Practice makes perfect for finding the amount of time you need to lay off the gas here. I tried to find a line that would not require letting off the gas, but everytime I tried, I would ram into the outside wall. Guess that doesn't work
Stay on the right side of the road before you enter the next tunnel. Dont try to hug the inside wall. It is faster to turn in late, so you are on the left side of the road as you exit the turn. This will give you a much better line through the next turn. Turn into the right turn with two tires on the curb. Let off the gas about a quarter of the way through the turn. Just before you are able to see the next tunnel, accelerate as hard as you can.
2nd Split: 45.717
Stay on the left side of the road until you exit the tunnel. Brake hard and turn sharply to the right so two of your tires go over the inside curb on this 90 degree turn. You should go through the turn slow enough so that you exit in the middle of the road. For the next S-curve, just tap the brakes before entering each turn so you get on the right line, then accelerate through them. Try to stay as close to the grass as possible to get faster times. Once you exit the S-curve, get on the right side of the road. Accelerate down the short straight and prepare for a sharp hairpin turn. I wait until I cant see the inside of the turn anymore, then brake hard and turn sharply to the left. My tires go over the inside curb on the exit of the turn, and then I accelerate as much as possible while keeping the car from flying into the grass.
3rd Split: 1'07.832
Just take this straight and the next S-curve full out. Stay as close to the inside of the turns as possible without letting off on the gas. For the last turn, take it just like you did for the last hairpin, just slightly faster. Brake when you cant see the inside of the turn anymore, turn so your tire just touch the inside curb, and accelerate out so the cars tires just touch the outside curb. Accelerate to the finish, and your done

I think you will like this challenge. The Lister Storm was a very good car in GT2 but its kind of a dog if you use it in the Sim Races of GT3. So this is a great time to use it if you never have. The NA engine sounds great. It overpowers even Super Soft tires on Deep Forest so finesse is needed in almost every turn. The car is heavy! And Deep Forest is one of the most beautiful tracks in the game. Try driving 8 or so laps and then sit back and watch the whole replay. Look for the skyline of the mountains through the break in the trees and the wide angle camera shots.

Here is the lap description for Deep Forest Raceway:
Cross the start line at 169mph floored in 6th gear. Stay near the right of the track to prepare for the first turn ahead. As soon as you get to the area around where the rumble strips start on the right you want to break. The car is using no traction control, so you want to brake early and control the throttle trying to bring the car around the turn with the back end under control. If you brake late, then the best you can do is try making up for it by giving it more gas and will most likely spin out. Downshift into 3rd and control the throttle and you can touch the left rumble strip with the left tire if you want, but make sure you try to take a straight line out of the turn to get the highest speed you can going up the short hill. Bring the car back to the right of the track on exit to keep the line. The right tires should hit the rumble strips on exit. I was at around 104 mph when I left the area where the rumble strips end on the right, and still think that it was not that great of a start. It was hard to take the turn with no traction, but I found that it made a huge difference during the rest of the lap because I had more leeway with the handling when trying to throw the car around those turns as aggressive as possible. Race toward the area with the first split now, and bring the car left and then back right because you want to avoid making the car jump a bit from that small bump in the road that is barely noticeable. If the car is jumping and you do not have complete control over it, then you will not be able to take the s-turn before the tunnel properly. The car is in the center of the road coming back from the right a bit and is ready to take the left/right s-turn. Downshift into 4th gear and get off the gas for a split second to brake the car and have it twitch out a bit from the rear. Make the left as close to the dirt as you can to take a straight line when you slam the wheel back to the right. Downshift again into 3rd as you take the left, and then immediately jump back on the gas as the right two tires clip the rumble strips on the right side and you floor it through the first split while heading to the left of the track through the tunnel. The key to this section is being smooth.
First Split: 21.470
Keep it floored and reach 4th gear. Get to the left of the track. As soon as the car is out far enough, slam it into 3rd gear and cut the wheel right. You have to take this turn with the throttle. Here is where no traction will help out. Just floor it and let the car turn with the accelerator. Control the throttle a bit once you make the turn as you hug the right of the track, and let the car straighten out while taking a line back left through the next tunnel. The car should be floored and reaching 4th as you exit the tunnel. Here is another spot where you cant have the car jump. Keep the wheel straight. Go from left and take the line back right as you race down the windy turns and this short hill. As the car approaches the peak of the hill before the sweeping left turn, you should hit 5th gear. Shift into 5th, and then a split second later slam it into 4th and let the rear of the car swing out. Get back on the gas and floor it. If you have to get off the gas, do not let the car drop below 100mph. The car can make the turn at that speed no problem. This is the most tricky part of the lap. The the car gets out of control and the back end swings out too much, or the car jumps and looses speed, then the run is lost. You need the highest speed you can to exit and race up the hill. I always set a goal of 115mph at minimum. On exit here, you should be floored and shifting into 5th before the car is straight. Exit this turn at around 117 mph. Race up the hill and try to keep the car straight. The car should be floored and be in 6th gear as you pass the second split.
Second Split: 45.932
Get to the right of the track and prepare to downshift. Tweak the wheel right a bit, and the hard left to let the rear of the car swing out a bit as you down shift into 4th and after touching the brakes get on the gas immediately. Try to keep the highest possible speed here so you can carry it the rest of the way. You should be in 4th gear for not long at all, because you will be in 5th well before the car makes it through this sweeping left turn. Keep it floored and get to the right of the track. The car should be clipping the right rumble strips with the two right tires on exit. Try to let the car be as stable as possible here.no major wheel turns. You want to be keeping the speed up as high as possible. Approach the final left turn from the right of the track. You should be over 150mph here, and get off the gas as soon as the car is parallel to the right rumble strips and crank the wheel hard left. Floor it immediately and take the turn at 149-150 mph. The two left tires will be clipping the rumble strips on the left and then the right tires will be clipping the ones on the right on exit. Keep the car as straight as you can. You will be entering this turn at around 150 mph and the strips along with the turning of the wheel will slow you down, but you will be able to carry high 140ıs no problem and be over 150 again before you reach the top of the short slope. Keep it floored and finish the lap up as the speed climbs quickly from the small hill you are racing down. Cross the finish line at 169mph with a time of 1:04.598.

I hope everyone understands this. But if not, so be it.
My lap goes as follows:
I cross the start/finish line at 143mph. I kept to the right side of the track to make the right/left tansition easier. I take the transition smoothly touching both apexes on the curbs. Following that section I stay towards the right middle of the track and point myself into the next corner where I touch the inside curb. I ride that curb briefly and am in a position where I can angle the car to just touch the right hand curb on exit. After I touch the curb I keep to the right and prepare for the tight left hander. It's important to set up the car so you can get to the inside of the left hander. I stay in 3rd gear throughout that corner entering at 81mph and exiting at 86mph.
Split time to this point is 0'14.932
I then get the car into the left lane and set up the slide around turn 6. I take that corner at about 70mph in 2nd gear. Following that corner I keep to the extreme left It's full gas until I barely touch the brake to slow down to 90mph for the next corner.<Bear in mind that corner can be taken faster> I'm full throttle out of the corner using all! of the left lane. I transition to the right lane under tunnel barely lift off to slow to 95mph. I keep to the far left riding out the yellow hashed lane. I exit that downhill corner at 104mph in 3rd gear.
My split time at this point is 0'33.817
For the straight I keep to the far right and upshift at 144mph near the top of the hill. In turn 9 I set the car into a drift and catch it at 70 mph in 2nd gear. I exit the corner in 3rd gear at 86mph. For the next right/left combo I stay in clore to the right for the first and close to the left for second trying to stay as straight as possible but touching both curbs in process. For the tight right hander turn 12 that followrs I set the car into a slide and catch the car in 2nd gear at 72 just as the front right tire touches the inside curb. I exit the corner at 88mph in 3rd gear.
My split time at this point is 1'00.587
I then move to the right lane along the straight and touch the curb to help set me into the left hander. I slide into the coner and catch the car at 70 mph and then accelerate out touching both the inside and outside curbs in the process. I exit that corner at 86mph in 3rd gear. I stay full throttle down the straight in the right hand lane using some of the shoulder to help set the car into the chicane. I try to stay as straight as possible through chicane to not scrub speed and keep car stable. I touch both curbs at apex and exit the chicane at 134mph. From then on out its pedal to the metal until I cross the finish line.
My lap time was a 1'19.106.
(And I know I could have hit the 18's but was too busy the second week of comp to improve time.)
For competition 6.4 we've chosen the Ruf RGT on Laguna Seca. However, only the NA engine upgrades will be used along with all of the other standard upgrades (suspension, trans, chip, tires etc.) So no turbo upgrades that's pretty much it. Best of luck to everyone.

Here is the lap description for Laguna Seca Raceway
Cross the start/finish line floored in 6th gear at around 126mph. Get to the right of the track to prepare for the first turn. Downshift the car gear by gear to help the car brake, while at the same time keeping it in the sweet spot of the gears and take it down to 2nd. Get off the gas to let the car turn in, and then control the throttle as you turn the car with the accelerator. Feed the gas slowly into the car so that it does not spin out, and as you exit the turn the car will be floored and you will clip the rumble strip on the left tight as you shift into 3rd gear on exit. Bring the car back to the left after coming off a bit to the right to prepare for the right hand turn ahead. The car should be floored and in 4th as you approach the turn. Get off the gas for a split second and let the back end swing out, and then immediately floor it again in 4th while clipping the rumble strips on the right of the track. Keep the car floored and you should be hitting 5th gear by the end of this short stretch. Bring the car to the left clipping the left rumble strips as you prepare for that right hander at the end of the short straight just after the first split. Get off the gas and twitch the wheel right and then get back on it and floor it in 5th. That will help the car around the turn because the back will sway out a bit, but barely. This corner can not be taken full throttle, but extremely close to full throttle.that is why you get off the gas for that split second and then floor it through the turn.
First Split: 19.388
Come out of the turn and clip the rumble strips on the left of the track. Bring the car back to the far right of the track floored in 6th gear to prepare for the left turn ahead. Shift into 4th to let the car drift around the turn. Aim for the rumble strips on the left and take the turn at around 87mph. Ideally, you should be at around 88mph, but I took the turn at 86mph which was a bit slower than I wanted to. The rumble strips will be used to help you around the turn. Keep the car floored as you climb the hill and pass the second split approaching the corkscrew. Clip the rumble strips on the left of the track as you race through the turn.
Second Split: 36.165
Get to the left of the track to prepare for the corkscrew. Bring the car from left to right and then slam on the brakes while downshifting the car into 3rd gear. You should be on the left of the track as you come over the crest at the top of the hill, and as you are braking and downshifting bring the car to the right a bit so the back end will swing out. The car should be in 3rd gear, and go through the corkscrew from left rumble strip to right. Shift the car into 4th as you just leaving the top of the hill but still on the downhill section of the corkscrew to help the car stabilize, even though the car is not ready for 4th gear yet. Keep the car floored down the hill. Get to the right of the track. You should be in 5th gear at this time. The third split is right at the bottom of the hill where the left turn is. You do not need to get off the gas. Keep the car floored and use the rumble strips on the left of the track to help the car around the turn. I let the car redline in 4th before I shifted it into 5th. That seemed to give the car that split second of hesitation that I needed for me to stay on the gas and make the turn, rather than taking it just a bit too fast or getting off the gas and taking it too slow.
Third Split: 54.794
Clip the rumble strip on the right of the track as you exit the turn. Get the car back over to the left immediately. For the right turn ahead you will be at the end of 5th gear and floored, but downshift into 4th to let the car drift around the turn. Clip the right rumble strips going through the turn, and as soon as you drift to the left of the track clip the strips on the left and floor it in 4th. Keep it floored and shift into 5th. Slam on the brakes to take the final turn. You will be at the right of the track, so downshift into 2nd as you are braking going through the gears to help the car brake. Control the throttle to make sure that the tires donıt spin out, because you need the traction to propel the car forward and reach the highest speed possible crossing the finish line. Clip the rumble strips on the right of the track when exiting this turn to keep the best line. Cross the finish line at 126mph with a time of 1:14.577.

Racing Starts today and ends on Sunday June 15th.
Times are due on Monday the 16th.
This will cause a problem for me as I will be with my son at Scout Camp starting on the 15th.
I may need someone to fill in to collect all the times.
