Competition 3 Challenge #1 (by Team Speed Corps)
Track: Trial Mountain II (Reverse)
Challenge Type: Fastest lap (Arcade Mode)
Car/Mods: Choose your weapon!
Tommykaira ZZII - 570hp max (oil change)
Corvette C5R - 640hp max (oil change)
Mazda RX7 LM - 600hp max (oil change)
Opel Astra Touring Car - 575hp max (oil change, NA-1)
FTO LM - 567hp max (no oil change!)
Tuning: Anything goes!
Restrictions: Mods that increase HP output or decrease weight outside the specifications shown above^^ are NOT ALLOWED. These cars all have similar power/weight ratios, so in order to keep them competitive with each other those ratios must be preserved. All other modifications (racing suspension, transmission, etc.) are okay. Repeat: All other mods okay.
End Date: 11:59pm Sunday, June 23, 2002
The neat thing about this challenge is that any of the above cars could potentially be the winner. In this form their performance is quite close. Your goal is to find a way to get the car around the track faster using good tuning and driving technique, rather than HP upgrades.
So take each car for a test drive, consult your teammates, choose your ride, and show us what you've got! Your time must be posted within 24 hours of the end date along with the name of the car you used to run your record lap.

Winner's Settings (Patrokloss)
Here we go! Letıs start with settings
RX7 LM:
Spring Rate: 8.0F/9.0R
Ride Height: 60/65
Shock Bound: 10/10 <---- not a typo
Shock Rebound: 2/2 <---- also not a typo
Camber: 4.0/3.4
Toe: -0.5/-0.5
Stabilizers: 3/4
Brake Balance: 24/19
LSD Initial: 25
LSD Accel: 55
LSD Decel: 5
Gear ratios:
1 - 3.211
2 - 2.246
3 - 1.732
4 - 1.385
5 - 1.138
6 - 0.955
F - 4.300
Transmission Auto-Setting: L28
Downforce: 1.00/1.25
ASM: 0
TCS: 3
Spring Rate: The RX7 LM comes with pretty stiff spring rates. It really doesnıt need to be sprung that tightly. These settings help loosen up the suspension a bit so itıs not as harsh. Also, the softer front springs improve turning response quite a bit, while the relatively stiff rear springs make for more oversteer.
Ride Height: I lowered the car for the sake of having a lower center of gravity and improved weight transfer/handling response, but I really didnıt notice that much of a difference with this car. Keeping the front a bit lower than the back helps shift the weight forward a bit more, giving you slightly more oversteer.
Shock Bound/Rebound: Now hereıs the weird part. On a whim, I decided to reverse my bound and rebound settings, and I found myself plowing through every turn 2-3mph faster! It basically took the twitchy and unstable nature of the car to a whole new level, making it even more difficult to control, but also somehow faster through the turns. Donıt ask me why it worksjust try it!
Camber: I did my usual here. 3-4 degrees of camber will give you better lateral grip without adverse effects on braking/acceleration. The lower setting in the rear helps maintain a grip balance that favors oversteer.
Toe: Negative front toe will give you slightly decreased turning response, in exchange for a little more stability through the turns (something this car is sorely in need of). Negative rear toe improves turn-in and cornering ability.
Stabilizers: Nothing special here. Lower setting in front improves turning response a bit, but itıs not critical.
Brake Balance: Chalk this one up to personal preference. See elsewhere for debates on whether or not thisuh"works".
LSD Settings: The effect of higher or lower LSD settings seems to vary from car to car, so I donıt really have a basis for a logical explanation for these settings other than my own trial and error. They feel right to me.
Transmission: Auto-setting level 28 is about right; the car will just about top out at the end of the straightaways. I went a bit beyond that and tweaked the individual gears for maximum acceleration through gears 3-4-5, which is where youıll spend most of your time on this track.
Downforce: Iıve gotten into the habit of cranking the downforce all the way up on all my racecars. It drastically improves handling, and doesnıt actually seem to hurt your top speed noticeably. As long as the grip balance stays where you want it, I recommend setting this to max both front and rear.
ASM/TCS: I donıt like ASM anymoreturn it off if you can handle it. I kept just enough TCS on to keep the rear tires under controlsort of.
That about covers it, I think. I havenıt got time for the lap description now I had this whole thing typed up and ready to go, and my computer froze!! AAAGH!! So now Iım out of time. Look for the lap description later tonight or tomorrow.

The reason that i have the bound and rebound at all 10 and the springs higher is because i like the car bouncy instead of stiff. going over the grass and all of the bumps the car can keep higher speeds in my opinion and if controlled right will not be all over the road. i think the car turns better with the toe the way it is, even though it is a bit extreme.
Splits: 31.645

Lap Description:
This was a long course and I ran it many times. i am going to give you the basic line that i ran during my run but include the correct way that i ran it the many other times resulting in better splits almost the entire way through. i used a manual and not an automatic so this description is going to be assuming that a manual is driven. the focus is more on shifting at the right time and throttle control rather than watching for certain speeds.
Cross the start line at 212-213 mph in 6th gear. keep to the left and at the 100m sign slam on the brakes while shifting down into 2nd gear. cut the corner so that the two right tires are on the rumble strip to the right when exiting and you are floored, shifting into 3rd gear by the time you are out of the turn heading in a straight line to the left of the straigh. keep it floored and you should be in 5th gear by the time you get to the s-curves. stay in 5th gear and anticipate the turns while hitting the rumble strips with 2 of your tires at each turn. throughout this section you want to fluctuate the throttle from 1/2 to full throttle the entire way....do not leave 5th gear and do not keep it floored the whole way. if you go 1/2 to full then you should be at 1/2 while entering turns and full while exiting...always keeping foot on gas, but not always floored. the last turn before the chicane on the left you want to be floored in 5th gear cutting right over it in a straight line and the head for the right side of the track on the straight. if properly executed you should be able to shift into 6th gear just after hitting the chicane but DO NOT....you will be too fast for the turn and the gears are set up so that you will be hitting 192-193 at the end of 5th, and you will not be getting much faster than that by the end of the short stretch. as you approach the turn on the left you want to shift into 2nd gear for a split second and then floor it, drifting around the turn and keep it floored and you should be passing the first time point. the split i had in my run was 31.645. i have been 31.0 and 31.1 many times....anything in the mid 31's will be fine....even some low 32's were hit by me when i broke 3:00.
31.645
At this point you should be in 4th gear heading toward the square section and you should be over 150mph. stay right and then cut left shifting into 3rd gear. try to cut these corners to come out in a line while exiting and run over the grass every time....tyring to come as close to the wall as you can to shorten the distance. NEVER leave 3rd gear....you can go faster and the springs are set accordingly. Fluctuate from 1/2 to full throttle as before, but do so everytime you cross the street. floor it coming out of the turn, and then brake a bit when you cross the street and keep it at 1/2 throttle when you are making the turn, then full throttle when you exit...keep repeating until the last turn and come off in as straight of a line as possible. do not rely 100% on turning because for the most part if you keep the wheel straight it will sometimes straighten the car out for you automatically when you hit the gas right...but do not go from no gas to full throttle....keep feeding the car gas the entire time. cut the corner but keep the car straight when you exit and keep it floored. by the middle of the straight you should be in 4th gear and heading into 5th and should be over 150mph. a good random check will be at the slight bend in the straight, and getting there at around 54 seconds. keep to the right and keep it in 5th when you take the next left turn. keep 2 tires on the rumble strip to the left. as soon as you exit hit the brake and shift into 2nd, drifting around the turn but cut the inside of the corner and be in third gear while you exit. the third gear setup is great for cutting over the grass and you can do it here without worry. you are now heading down the straight and a good check will be about 1/2 way down and being at around 1:05-1:06. you should be full throttle and keep it floored. keep to the left and as soon as you approach the rumble strip shift into 2nd while braking and drift a bit, but make certain that you cut the corner over the grass a bit in a straight line and in 3rd gear. if you are in a straight line heading for the outside of the straight that is ahead then you can be in third and floored when you cut over the grass...do not worry about spinning out if you are in third gear....NEVER be in 1st gear. this goes for anywhere on this track. never ever be in first gear. now you are floored coming down the straight on the left side of the track approaching the turn on the right and the next time spot. I was at 1:14.930 at this point during my run. my best splits have been 1:13.1 and other mid to low 1:13's. the 1:14.9 was very high but i kept the run anyway....good thing i did. anything in the mid to low 1:14's will be acceptable for a sub 3:00 run.
1:14.930
From the outside of the track you want to cut the chicane in a straight line in 2nd gear.....not third.....and keep close to the wall heading straight for a cut over the small one on the left. KEEP IN 2nd GEAR.....never ever in 1st. turn 100% to the left and floor it and then keep going from brake to full thottle and hit the rumble strip on the right when you are going around that sharp turn. One point i need to make clear....during these twist turns the correct way to go around is to keep the thottle fluctuating to keep the highest constant speed.....i only did this on the last turn because it was big enough to do so, the speed was great, and the other smaller turns were able to be cut at certain points that will eliminate this process. so, it is better to go from full throttle and then brake sharply going around each turn. make sure you come out straight and at full throttle when you head for the next turn and there is that small straight that is there. on the turn that reccommends 2nd gear, keep the car in 2nd and come out straight heading toward the wall to cut the next twist. this will be the twist that reccommends 3rd gear (you know, the one with the little red light that says third). cut right over the grass in third gear and brake immediatly when you exit and shift into 2nd gear if you need to because you are going to floor it when you get out of the grass and keep turning right to make sure that you are in a straight line heading for the turn that reccommends 4th gear. keep it floored until you must brake and hit brake and then floor it to try to have the car heading toward the wall on the left side of the track. come out completely straight cutting over the grass on the left side of the track to keep the line straight and you should be floored and hitting 5th gear before the last sweeping turn. cut as close to the right as you can and take this turn properly. no grass cutting here. keep it in 5th....never 4th. keep it in 5th and go from full to 1/2 throttle the entire way to make sure that you are keeping the highest speed you can and as soon as the road straightens out you will be floored and hitting 6th gear as soon as you can. never take your foot off the gas.....just keep fluctuating it if you need to slow down, and never hit the brakes. you will be hitting this next time point now heading down the straight. My split here was 2:00.504. My best split was 1:58.5 and i have done some 1:59's, but a good place to be is 2:00 to 2:01 if you want to be breaking 3:00.
2:00.504
This last section is very important. Keep the car floored at all times going through these rolling hills.....ALL TIMES. you should approach the hills at the right side of the track in 6th gear at around 202mph. VERY IMPORTANT: make sure the car is COMPLETELY straight when heading into these turns. you want to turn right when you go over the hill but you do not want the car to be turning right after twiching a bit down the straight when you make the car drive in a line. do all the tweaking you need before the hills hit or you will not be able to take then at a high speed. anticipate the hills and keep the car as straigh as you can in a line.....you should keep turning the wheel the entire time but do not rock the car back and forth. keep it in 6th the whole way and you should not be dipping below 197-198mph until you shift into 5th to go over the last chicane heading toward the sharp turn near the dirt at the end. cut the chicane and downshift to brake the car and hit the brakes and make sure that you are in 2nd gear and drifting a bit at the end going around the turn. cut the corner on the left near the rumble strip and floor it the entire way. coming out straight is so much more important that coming into the turn fast because you can make up ground after exiting. keep to the left side of the track and as soon as the rumble strips are there on the left the turn will be on the right. you should be in 5th gear and floored by this point. hit brakes and keep left 2 tires on left rumble strip for split second to make sure you downshift into 3rd gear and cut the corner on the right as close as you can...try to floor it coming out of the corner and be in 4th gear as you as nearing the left side of the straight where you approach the long stretch ahead. you are still floored. when you approach the chicane you will be in 6th gear and at full throttle....cutting over the grass is a given, but you want to make the cut a bit to the right so you do not cut too close to the edge of the rumble strips....the car will be too bouncy if this is not done correctly and will lose some speed and control. you should be at around 200mph when you are approaching the final turn of the track. stay to the left.....keep it floored....when you approach the rumble strips on the left then get ready to brake.....right at the last minute near the end of the rumble stips slam on the brakes and turn right while shifting into 4th gear to make the car bounce right and then immediately floor it and be in 5th as you cut over the grass at the right of the track. you will be near the wall but you want to keep it floored and come out on the left side of the straight near the strips....even cutting over them a bit but straighten the car out as soon as you can. you will be floored and heading down the track and by the end you will cross the finish line at 212mph. 2:57.912 is the final time.
2:57.912
This was kind of hard to explain but i hope that this met everyones expectations. let me know if there are any questions.
These are the settings that i use to set all of my fastest times for all the tracks in the game....kind of my universal settings for the F094/S. Hope they help everyone drop some time!

I will try to get the Lap description posted by tommorow.
for the guys who like to run more camber, please try to experiment with these settings and tell me what you think. I couldnt really feel much of a difference, but i didnt like it. As for the stabilizers and shock setting, i noticed that this car loves to be stiff, and it seemed like the stiffer i went the better the car was. I went extreme on the shocks and spring rates, i softened the front slightly to allow for a little more off power steering, but stiffened the rear to keep the car from squatting too much on power to give it good exit steering. After playing for a while with the swaybars at 4 i decided to experiment and went to both extremes of the scale and i had made a great improvement on my laptimes and on tire wear by going softer, so i kept them at 1. It takes time to learn to drive the car with a little bit of oversteer, and you have to counter very early to keep the car from getting too sideways and thus slowing you down, its almost like a snap reflex, but once you get it down it works. Beware the car will get away from you very quickly if you arent on your toes. Reeeech will testify just how twitchy the car feels. most importantly is to try and keep the throttle under control, it has to be poured on smoothly. I found that after playing with my no 1 controller for so long that the X buttin got desensitized, so after i switched to my barely used no 2 controller the throttle was much easier to control.( anybody else notice this problem?)

Here is the lap description:
Start the race by pulling to the right of the cars, passing them, and the get back in the middle of the track.
at the first bend clip the rumble strip on the right with your two right tires to make sure that you do not hit any walls on the left side of the track by drifting into them. you should be flooring it up the straight and be in 6th gear at the top.
stay to the right at the top of the hill. stay in 6th gear and cut the rumble strip on the left side of the track for the left turn and keep it floored. slam into the wall straight ahead on the right side of the track full throttle and as soon as you hit the wall jerk the wheel left and shift into 4th gear, flooring it as you straighten the car out and keep flooring it as you make the turn and try to keep a straight line heading down the stretch approaching the first checkpoint. (note: this is the only wall you should be touching....i am not a wall rider and advise against it. i rode the wall here with this car because of the way my gears were set up combined with the limited HP and found that this method shaved off a bit of time. i was struggling with my gears the entire time i raced this challenge.)
Floor it down the stretch and pass the first checkpoint heading toward the right turn. do not go higher than 5th gear.
1st split: 27.894 (best was 27.7)
Stay to the left as you approach the turn. shift into 2nd gear as you take the turn. you should be inches away from the strip at the right.....do not hit it, and have no more than 2 tires on the left strip as you exit the turn. you should have controlled the throttle a bit in 2nd gear but only for a split second to make sure that you dont lose traction. you should be flooring it as you exit and by the top of the hill be in 4th gear.
stay to the left. drift around the next turn a bit by shifting into 3rd as you drift and cutting over the right rumble strip with your right two tires and as you exit make sure that you do not hit the rumble strip on the left. floor it and you should be in 4th gear heading down the short stretch and keep the car to the right near the wall.
as you near the end of the stretch you should be at the redline of 4th gear. as soon as you see the rumble strip on the right shift into 5th as you cut a hard left making the turn. dont floor it here....you should clip the rumble strip on the left and control the throttle because you want to be able to stay in 5th gear and make the short S curve by keeping the car at the maximum speed you can and you do not want to touch any walls. you should be at about 1/2 throttle as you go through the turns and try to get that line when exiting which will start by hitting the rumble strip on the right that will cut left and make you hit the rumble strip on the left. this is where i messed up a bit because i grazed the wall on the left when exiting and lost a bit of speed.
you should be floored now in 5th and keep it floored because you are now heading past the next checkpoint and racing down the long stretch.
2nd Split: 54.207 (best was 54.0)
Floor it down the straight with as little tire squeal as possible. stay to the left and at the end shift into 3rd for a split second to drift a bit around the turn but be in 4th and floored when you exit. clip the rumble strips on the right as you drift through the turn and you can use the strips at the left when you exit BUT NO SIDEWALK DRIVING. you should have no more than 2 tires on the rumble strip on the left because you do not want to touch the sidewalk at all.
stay to the left inches from the sidewalk and keep it floored. shift into 5th even though you will only be in 5th for around 1/2 a second. shift in 3rd and make the turn.....do not have more than 2 right tires on the rumble strip, if any, and do not go into 2nd gear under any circumstances. you can make the turn in 3rd keeping your speed up and if you control the throttle and have it at about 1/2 throttle you will control your traction so you wont spin out and you can be at the end of 3rd gear coming out of the turn and quickly jump on the gas flooring it up the straight near the finish line.
cross the finish line at around 142-143 mph at the end of 5th gear and keep it floored while staying to the left of the track.
Lap 1 split time: 1:15.785 (best was 1:15.5)
Keep it floored and take the same line on this lap also. make sure that you clip the rumble strip on the right side of the track going down this long straight as you cut from the left to make sure that you do not hit any walls that will ruin the run.
Split times for lap 2:
1st: 22.103 (best 21.9)
2nd: 48.413 (best 48.0)
final lap split: 1:09.686 *best split*

Winners Settings (MpowerAce)
Ok fellas here they are, I had alot of time last week because i was sick with the flu, so i just stayed home and played GT whenever I was upright, but everybody else thought i was sleeping all day in order to get "better". So without further delay here are my Laguna Seca Clio settings:
Spring Rates 8.0/10.8
Ride Height 75/78mm
Bound 10/10
Rebound 10/10
Camber 2.0/1.2
Toe 0.0/0.0
Stabilizers 3/4
Brake Bias 24/23
LSD In/Acc/Dec 10/35/5
Auto setting 26 (but then modified)
1st 3.153
2nd 2.160
3rd 1.628
4th 1.237
5th 1.032
6th 0.930
Final 4.500
Downforce 0.74/0.86
ASM/TCS 0/0
As usual, i set the car up pretty stiff, and very responsive. I find that the car will corner flat and still soak up the bumps well, even thought laguna is pretty smooth. Since we are not starting from a stand still no need for tcs. I tried a bunch of different spring settings, but eventually i came up with the ones above, being a little softer helped the short wheelbase clio put the power down better and it also allowed the car to steer fairly well at hight speed. The Downforce settings give the car a bit more steering in the first couple of high speed sweepers and as a result you can stay buried in the throttle pretty much, but overall the car still feels pretty neutral to me. If there are any other questions just let me know. Time to go write up the lap desription.
Laguna Seca Lap Description
You know I am still so amazed at how hard it is to write these things up, kudos to all that have written one up before.
Ok at the start, you want to take what would be the last corner on the track in second gear, and clip the inside left wheels on the rumble strips, and exit out hard on the throttle onto the main straight. Keep on the throttle and try to hug the left side of the track coming over the crest and into the soft left hander. Up through the gears, all the way to 6th and 145mph. At this point you should be at the far right side of the track and use the spot just where the dirt begins on the right as a braking point. Hard on the brakes and downshift into 2nd even though the display tells you to take the next decreasing radius in third. The short blip into second while braking helps to decelerate the car and to tighten up the line. This corner is best taken with a late entry and then cutting in hard to just clip the apex of the second part of the corner (about 68 71 mph), donıt worry about hitting the first one, although you donıt want to be too far away from it. Hard on the gas after decelerating, and you should build the speed gradually and avoid going off the right side of the track on exit into the sand/dirt, it wont slow you down terribly, but it will make it much harder to set up for the first crucial fast right hander.
Once out of the corner move over to the left side of the track and line up for the right hander, this corner is taken in 4th and keep the speed at about 100 mph through the apex. The best way to do this is to brake light and early (just to send some weight to the front axle) and then moderate throttle going through (toughest part is getting the line right early on in the corner to allow you to carry the speed through), try to clip the inside rumble strips with the right side of the car so that you can carry more speed on exit (usually about 107mph). On exit you should again be at the left side of the track and hard on the throttle on your way into the next long sweeping right. This corner is pretty much taken flat out, no brakes and at about 120 mph in 5th at the apex. (split time of 19.1xx) Again it is important to use the entire width of the track and when done right you should end up on the light white rumble strips on the left of the course. A quick light right hander is thrown in here just to make setting up for the next corner a little more difficult, but you should aim for the apex and then stay along the right side of the track in preparation for the first uphill left.
Just before the corner you should hit about 142 mph and then brake hard at approximately the last brake marker on the side of the track. This corner is to be taken in 4th and it is imperative that you take the right line because your exit speed here will greatly effect your overall time. The main reason for this is because our little Clio will be chugging along uphill and the more momentum it carries out of the corner the quicker it will get up the hill. You should enter the corner at around 100 mph and carry the speed through the apex. On exit you should just end up on the white strips on the right side of the track and be shifting into 5th gear, (split time of 35.500) make sure you carry the needle on the tach all the way to redline and the little flashing light is going nuts.
Hard on the gas all the way up the hill and the next left corner comes up fast, you should be in 5th at about 125 mph or higher, no brakes necessary, just a lot of throttle and move to the left of the track just after the Bosch sign. Again rev the crap out of the little engine, donıt shift until about 127mph into 6th. Straighten out and prepare for everyoneıs favorite Corkscrew corner. You should be on a straight line and heading towards the last little crest before the CS, at about 139 mph, and in 6th gear.
Hard on the brakes, just about the number 2 on the side of the track, and head for the rumble strips on the left of the track just before the drop off., and you should be in 2nd gear, with the 2 left tires over the left rumble strips. Only a little bit of correction is necessary to the right as the contour of the corkscrew will help the car drift down the corner. Before the drop you should be back into 3rd and moderate on the throttle, Try to keep the car as straight as possible going down and head for the rumble strips on the right side now, and get your 2 right tires over them. It is very easy to overcompensate and send the car into over steer that will drain massive amounts of time. When done correctly you should drop out of the CS and be on the gas and away before you even know it, and in fourth gear setting up for the next loooong sweeping downhill left.
Just as you are cutting across to the left for the early apex on the left hand corner, you should be shifting into 5th, way before the rumble strips on the left and way before the overpass. Clip the rumbles on the left just barely at about 115 and head towards the right as this is the optimum line through the corner, it may seem a little unorthodox, but you carry a lot of speed this way and you should be hard on the gas the whole way down. (split time 53.high, low 54.000)
Quickly back to the left for the second to last corner, and as you set up you should reach 6th gear, only briefly, I probably could have stretched fifth a little more so that you didnıt have to shift here, but I preferred having a taller ratio so that the car could pull better going up the long hill before the CS. You should hit about 127 mph in 6th for only a brief stint and then hard on the brake into 5th and down to about 105 mph. Clip the rumble strips on the right (even get 2 wheels over it if u can) and then drift toward the white ones on the left, again try to stay off the dirt, it wont slow you down if you go off slightly, but you need to be much quicker to set up for the last hard left hander going onto the straight.
Moving over to the right side of the track in prep for the last corner you should hit about 126 before braking hard (about the 2 marker) and turning in towards the cones and rumble strips on the left. Down into 2nd and at about 50mph, you should clip the apex at 61mph and be shifting into 3rd simultaneously on your way out onto the straight and finishing with a damn fast lap!!!!

Let me just add that alot of experimentation went on with the bound and rebound settings because i thought for rally i would have to go soft on the settings, but in the end the car just felt best to me like this. This is definitely not the way to go in real life, but it works in the game. I worked hard to give the car a rear wheel drive bias as i am more comfortable with it this way. The LSD settings are what helped me accomlish this. I cant stress how important the LSD settings were for this challenge. They really make a huge difference. One of the greatest tweaks was the toe in at the front, it really helped the car carry more steering mid to exit and it also made the car a little more predictable on entry. The only other changes worth mentioning are the lightly altered gear ratios for a smoother start.
Feel free to try them out and tell me what you think, the lap description is up next.
Competition 3 Challenge no 6 Tahiti Circuit Lap Description
As this is a rally race, arguably one of the toughest parts is the start. It is imperative to make a good clean start that lets you put the power down effectively. The best way to do this is to try tinkering with the LSD and the ratios in the tranny, while simultaneously learning to feel the wheel slip at the start. A little in first gear is difficult to avoid, but it can be done with cautious throttle application. Bring up the tach to about 6.5-7 something in that range and be prepared for the start. Once on your way you hit about 33mph you should be able to shift to second. At that point you can stomp on the throttle and you should have no problems pulling away smoothly. The other immensely important skill is to be able to do what is called the Scandinavian Flick by some (named such because of the drivers who use it when rallying in the snow i believe). This is where the car is forced into the corner very abruptly, turning in more so than it seems to be necessary for the corner, and then to quickly, and almost immediately counter steer to allow the car to correct and drift out towards the exit of the corner. Real rally racers use this technique on many but not all corners and in GT3 is has a profound effect on your exit speed. Depending on your entry you can decide whether or not to use this cornering technique to your advantage. I would recommend using it whenever you can pull it off without scrubbing too much speed off on entry and obviously where it wonıt put you in a wall on exit. These two skills are absolutely necessary if you want to be quick on a rally course. Youıll also notice that my gears will likely be higher than what the tachometer suggest you to be in, this is to help curb wheel spin mid corner and to help the car maintain a smoother line.
With that said youıre on your way to the first corner, make sure to move the Impreza over to the left of the track in preparation for the first right corner. This first corner can be tricky, you should hit about 115, (4th gear) before you need to brake and turn in for the corner. On the rally courses itıs very important to setup early for the corner and try to take a later or deeper apex that will allow you to drift the car on power coming out of the corner. I set the car up to have a rear wheel drive balance, which helps to make mid corner corrections as I have posted before. Hug the inside of the corner, and you should be able to stay above 100mph for most of the corner and end up on the left side of the track right before the GT banner for your exit. (flick probably not necessary because its first lap).
Hard on the gas all the way to the last Sign on the right of the track then just let off the throttle for a split second to help the car transfer weight and begin to turn in to the left for the approaching corner. No brakes are necessary and you should be in 5th gear through the corner. On exit you should be at or above 120mph. Quickly set up for the coming right hander and hard on the brakes. Use the crest to help line up the car mid corner and use the flick. You should be above 98mph (4th gear) through the corner and well above 100 on exit. By the time you reach the banner after the corner you should be at about 122mph.
Stay to the left of the course and brake down to about 80mph mid corner and only stay in third for a few seconds before shifting back up to fourth. Because this is a longer corner, mid corner you should be well above 90 and upwards of 110 after exit. (First split on lap one at 28.002, but 28 low is good, should be about 24.348 for second lap) Itıs important to carry the speed onto the short straight that is coming up. Move over the right of the track, and shift up to 5th before stepping hard on the brakes and shifting down to third for the approaching left hander, Mid corner on apex at about 80mph, again use the flick and make sure to carry speed on exit because another longer straight is coming after. On exit you should be almost at 100, and drifting towards the little bulge on the right wall.
Hug the right wall until you approach the first crest. This part is tricky and it depends heavily on you entry line to keep you from catching too much air and then bouncing off the wall. The best advice I can give is to aim slightly to the right and try to use the drift to keep speed up. Just before the next right corner there is a little bend in the road, make sure to allow the car to drift to the left of the course in order to set up for the next hard right. Stay above 160ısmph for the last duration of the straight and then up to 172 before braking hard to 3rd corner, another long right, down to about 60mph mid corner. Use the flick to help pull the car out of the corner and onto the mini straight with the slight right hand bend. The bend should be taken in 5ht, no brakes, just a little lift of the throttle, maybe not even that if your line is right and be sure to take a late apex so that you can set up for the hard left after it. (split time in 53.388, lap 2 at 48.472)
Up to 130mph, and set up on the right of the track slam on the brakes and turn left at about 65 mph (3rd gear), another late apex is key because the next 2 corners are very sharp. In both corners it is necessary to shift down to 2nd, but again only briefly to avoid too much wheel spin. Use the first corner to help set up for the left, exit in 3rd and up to 85mph, before hard on the brakes again and to the left, hug the wall at about 58mph and shift to 3rd midway through, but donıt hit it, it will slow you down and throw you off line for the approaching right that leads on to the start finish straight. Make sure you brake well before the pavement (at about the shadow from the banner) into 3rd (stay above 80mph) and use a light flick to drift and carry speed onto the tarmac and into 4th gear at over 100mph heading straight for the start finish line and straight-lining the chicane that is approaching midway through it. Then setup to the left and prepare to do it all over again, only this time the entry into the first corner will be faster and try to use a little flick.
Let me know if anybody has any questions/or suggestions. Happy racing
BTW I hope everyone enjoys our challenge #7, and the person who writes the lap description is going to have their work cut out for them.

Lap Description:
Cross the start line at 180mph. You should be in the middle of the track and should hit a speed of around 192mph before you get to the end of the stretch. Prepare to ride the wall for the first turn. There is only one way to ride the wall effectively: that is to pretend that it is a rail and start from the beginning of the curve and ride it smooth so you can still leave the wall in 4th gear and keep it floored as you drive through the small gap to take the right turn. You can hit the wall at the end of the gap because you need to brake anyway and losing speed will not matter. After the gap stay on the left of the track and after hitting the wall start to downshift to drift a bit around the right turn. You should be in second gear, but shift into third to straighten out the car and then back to second quickly to swing the back end out a bit and drift around the next left turn heading toward the first split time. As soon as your car is straight you should be full throttle and heading to the left of the track to prepare for the wallride
1st Split: 19.472
For this wall ride, do like I said at the beginning.pretend itıs a rail. Donıt slam into the wall head on.you have to ride it smooth and stay in 3rd to 4th gear depending on how well you catch the ride. I was in 5th when I hit it, went down to 4th and when I lost some speed I was in third upon exit. You are at full throttle the entire time, and now you should be heading to the right of the track to prepare for the next wall ride. Same thing here..ride it from the far right and let it sweep you around and through the turn. Keep it in the highest gear you can as long as you are still accelerating. You want to be able to keep a constant speed.the acceleration process is going to offset the wall taking your speed away if you are in the sweet spot of the gear. I was in 4th when I hit the wall and then shifted to 3rd immediately and exited in 3rd heading down the long stretch for the second split.
Second Split: 38.857
Keep it floored. I was in 5th gear and at about 162mph before I slammed on the brakes to take the quick right/left turn. I downshifted to 3rd to take the turn..and tried not to hit the wall. I was in 4th when I exited but I messed up on my run and hit the wall a bit. This was the only section that I donıt recommend wall riding to get a faster lap. I grazed the wall twice in this run but I think that you can be faster if you are able to control the throttle and hug the turn as much as you can. I hit the wall, but still ended up with my best lap. If you are wallriding, stay on the throttle the entire time until you hit the wall then slam it into the gear below to keep the car accelerating fast. If you can make it without the wallrides, then try to control the throttle to the point that you are not flooring it until you are straightening out after the long sweeping set of left turns.
You should be at the end of the stretch and floored at this point preparing to ride the wall for the 180 degree turn. Stay to the left of the track.aim for the spot on the wall that is just ahead of the left lane line..if you follow the lane line and keep going when the turn comes and the line goes right you will hit the wall almost head on but in the right spot. Downshift savagely to keep the car floored without much lag. Race up the hill and stay to the right of the track to prepare for the turn. No wall rides here..i was in 4th gear briefly and then dropped it into 3rd and then second as I took the turn but floored it in second to straighten the car out so that it is exiting the turn on the left side of the track because I wall rode the right turn ahead.
Stay to the left of the track and take the wall ride like beforepretending the wall was a rail and you were a train. After the wall sweeps you around you will be floored and heading down the straight toward the final checkpoint. I was 4th entering the wall ride and 3rd when leaving. Pass the final checkpoint near the end of 4th gear.
3rd split: 1:11.604
Keep it floored getting ready to slam on the brakes as late as possible. I was in 5th gear at about 150mph before I hit the brakes and downshifted to take the quick s turn. I took the turn in third gear and did not hit any walls at all, cutting my left two tires over the left rumble strip on the exit, and was in 4th gear immediately heading up the hill. You should take the turn as fast as possible without hitting any walls. It is better to get off the gas a bit for a split second to let the car drift and prevent it from accelerating into the wall on the left. You will lose a lot of time if you hit any walls here. You should be floored and on the left side of the track when you exit the final sweep heading down the final straight for the finish line. Keep the car as straight as possible, so you will crossing the finish line on the left side of the track. I finished the race at 179-180mph as I crossed the finish line.

Here is the lap description for Deep Forest Raceway:
Cross the start line at 148 mph floored in 6th gear. Stay to the right of the track and put your right two tires on the rumble strip on the right of the track before you make the turn. That will help the car get some breaking and turning traction. Brake down to 3rd gear and turn the car so you are exiting the turn with your left two tires inches from the rumble strip on the left. you should not brake down to a speed of less than 63 mph..you need to keep the car in the sweet spot of third gear, and 63 would be borderline loss of acceleration. You donıt want to go into second gear because you will lose too much speed and the car will have no exit speed at all for climbing the hill heading toward the curvy turns.
With this car you need to take the turns deep. There is not enough power to be taking them short and relying on the gas to get you going. You have to take deeper turns to maintain a higher speed.
So, you started at the right, cut in to the left, now let the car cut back out to the right as you straighten it out for the hill climb. You will be inches away from the rumble strip on the right of the track when you are exiting that first turn. You should be floored and heading up the hill try to keep the line as straight as possible. You donıt want to swerve too much to the right of the track at the top of the hill because you donıt want to be riding anywhere but on the track. After cutting back left and then right to keep your line there is that little area of room for your car to tip on its side near the right of the track, and you should be cutting close to that area without letting the car tilt at all. You will lose too much control that way and not be able to take the quick left/right turn before the tunnel properly. This is a critical turn and can make or break a run.
In 5th gear and at 114 mph I let the car get perfectly straight and the try to make her twitch a bit with the back end swing as I cut the turn very deep to the left on the grass with the left two tires to get a straight line from the far left to the tunnel. Brake softly down to 4th gear to keep the highest speed possible and the car will cut right and almost be with all 4 tires hitting the rumble strip on the right. A better example would be for the car to get as far right as possible without hitting that invisible wall that is there. The car should start to straighten out and as it does you should be floored going through the tunnel. I didnıt let the car get under 85 mph. Here is where the first split is.
First split: 23.651
Put the brakes on after the tunnel and shift into 3rd gear to make the turn on the right. Try to control the throttle and take the turn as close to the right as you can. That way you will be at the upper end of third gear and be able to shift into 4th as soon as the car has enough room to straighten out on a line going from the right of the second tunnel to the left of the track on exit. I didnıt let the car go all the way though 3rd gear because 4th had enough pull and I didnıt have to shift when exiting the tunnel and risk losing control on the bumpy downhill section that was ahead.
Stay floored in 4th keeping the line and at the top of the left downhill section you should be shifting into 5th as you cut far right with two right tires on the grass. Then make the deep left turn floored in 5th gear, and keep it floored. You will cut from left to right by keeping the wheel all the way to the left. Straighten the car out near the end before the next uphill section. The car should not go under 103 mph if the turn is taken properly.
You went from rumble strip to rumble strip and are now racing up the hill as your speed increases. Just before the last split you will be hitting 6th gear. Keep the car floored even though you have the left turn ahead. You are floored in 6th and trying to keep the car to the right of the track entering the tunnel as you pass the last split.
Second Split: 51.234
As soon as you exit the tunnel, brake SOFTLY and cut the turn to the left hard as you downshift into 5th gear. This is the most important part of the lap. You need to maintain the highest possible speed. Donıt let the car go anywhere under 113 mph if possiblethat is the perfect speed to be able to take the corner but not hit the guard rail on the right. As soon as the car gets down the speed from the soft brake and downshift, you should be back on the gas immediately and floored. Keep that car floored for the rest of the run. NEVER get off the gas again or you will not be getting the most out of the lap. There is plenty of turning room at the end to take it full throttle. As the car cuts right you will be hitting the rumble strip on the right, and it is going to be a close one almost hitting the guard rail. Taking the turn properly you can make it..it just takes some getting used to if the high constant speed through the turn is what you want.
I get to the far right of the track and by the final turn I am into 6th gear and still floored. Cut the last corner on the left. The car will not lose any speed because you donıt cut too deep and it is only for a split second because of the short section of grass. The car should not get under 135 mph. if you are not at that speed then you took the corner after the split at a speed that was too low. This car just does not have the power to drop speed and then pick back up..you must take all the turns deep and maintain the highest speed you can the entire time. You are at the right of the track heading down the straight for the finish line. 148 mph is what you should cross it at.
