North Alabama Christian School (NACS) was established as a ministry of the church of Christ
which meets at Mastin Lake Road in an effort to aid members of the church of Christ in
North Alabama who want to educate and train their children through home education.
Listed below are the requirements for enrollment in
North Alabama Christian School:
ENROLLMENT PROCESS
1. Parents must complete a faculty/parent application form. Submission of this form constitutes your agreement to comply with these enrollment requirements (enrollment process, enrollment standards, and enrollment termination).
2. Parents must complete a student application form for
each child enrolled in North Alabama Christian School.
3. Faculty must be active faithful members of the church
of Christ. The evangelist at or an elder of the congregation where the parents are
members must submit a completed reference form indicating that the parents are active
members in good standing. You should provide for them the form (see ELDER/PREACHER
Reference Form) and a stamped envelope addressed to NACS.
4. All parents must sign a disclaimer statement releasing
the Mastin Lake Road church of Christ/North Alabama Christian School and any
representative of the church/school from responsibility and liability for the education
of their children. Only the parents are liable for the education of their children.
5. When possible, the required application, reference, and
disclaimer forms should be completed in full and submitted to North Alabama Christian
School for approval at least four weeks prior to the beginning of the public school year.
6. The prospective family (including children) should meet
with the administrators for an interview and orientation.
7. All families with children of compulsory school age must
be members of the Home School Legal Defense Association (HSLDA).
North Alabama Christian School strongly recommends that you do not remove your children
from public or private school until your membership has been approved by HSLDA.
"HSLDA recommends that you do not contact them [local school district, social worker or
any other government official concerning either your children or your home school] until
you receive your acceptance letter and instruction sheet from us [HSLDA]."
The HSLDA membership requirement must be met before acceptance into NACS.
Only on an exceptional "emergency" basis prearranged with the NACS
administrators, may new enrollment in North Alabama Christian School be on a
probationary status for thirty (30) days from the date of completion of all other
required application items, pending acceptance into membership into HSLDA.
Verbal acknowledgement from HSLDA with a membership number is acceptable to comply with
this "HSLDA membership" requirement. A copy of a membership acceptance letter
or current renewal or current membership card must be placed on file in the
North Alabama Christian School office within two weeks of your receipt of such notice.
8. An annual enrollment fee of $25.00 per family is
required to cover school expenses and includes the use of equipment (e.g. copy machine,
lamination machine, etc.), Bible resource materials belonging to Mastin Lake Road church
of Christ and other limited equipment available from the school. This privilege is
limited to faculty and limited to school purposes. Use of the copier and laminator is
limited to the amount the enrollment fee will provide to cover this purpose.
Use beyond this amount will require a fee of $.05 per copy made and $.05 per foot of
lamination used. A one-time graduation fee of $20.00 is required for each student prior
to graduation. The annual fee, graduation fee, and equipment use fees are subject to
change from year to year. Deposit of your check or cash for the enrollment fee does NOT
constitute acceptance of enrollment into NACS. North Alabama Christian School is a
non-profit ministry of the Mastin Lake Road church of Christ.
9. When enrollment in North Alabama Christian School is
complete, the parent/teacher must send a written request for each student's records
from his previous school.
10. The attached Church School Enrollment Form, that confirms each student's enrollment in
North Alabama Christian School, is required by Alabama Code 16-28-7. Parts I and III
must be completed. You must also provide the name and address of your local
superintendent. The address for the local superintendent, or the
school DISTRICT (city or county), is needed, not the address of the particular school
your child would otherwise attend. NACS will complete Part II and send the original to
the local Superintendent's office. North Alabama Christian School will keep one copy on
file, and the parents may keep one copy. NACS will NOT notify the Superintendent’s
office until all enrollment process requirements are completed and submitted.
ENROLLMENT STANDARDS
11. Parents agree to provide instruction from all of,
but not limited to, the following subjects: Reading, Spelling, Writing, Arithmetic,
English, Geography, Science, Health, Physical Education, U.S. History, and

|
A.

Parents agree to submit a copy of attendance records annually for the "school year"
ending by the second Saturday in August and covering the entire period for which
the children/students are enrolled with NACS for that "school year." These
records are to be placed in the family's file maintained by NACS. These are due
by the second Saturday in August.
|
|
B.
|
Parents agree to submit at least a photocopy of their HSLDA membership card or
confirmation of HSLDA online renewal within 30 days of such renewal. The item
must confirm actual completion of renewal, not just application for renewal.
Your name, your HSLDA membership number, and the renewal date for the following
year or later should be displayed on this document. This is an annual
requirement.
|

C.

Parents agree to submit the annual enrollment fee at the beginning of the "school

|
|
D.
|

|
E.
|
The requirement stated herein serves as notice.
|
16. North Alabama Christian School suggests that parents
maintain records of attendance, a daily journal of instruction or lesson plans and a
portfolio of materials containing samples of each student's work.
17. North Alabama Christian School suggests that students
take standardized tests beginning in the fourth grade and every three years thereafter.
18. NACS conducts monthly faculty meetings that are designed
to help in carrying out teaching and parenting responsibilities as well as to serve as a
support group. During a school year (July through June), at least one parent is
required to attend a minimum of three monthly faculty meetings. Each enrolled student
is required to participate in at least one field trip or monthly activity (a faculty
meeting is not a monthly activity) during the course of the school year.
Family attendance at any graduation conducted by NACS is mandatory. To waive adherence
to this policy of mandatory attendance, a written explanation acceptable to the NACS
administration must be placed in your enrollment file in the NACS office.
ENROLLMENT TERMINATION
19. Parents agree to notify North Alabama Christian School
in writing when enrollment of any or all children is terminated.
20. The Administration reserves the right to dismiss any
North Alabama Christian School faculty members and their students if in the
administration's judgement the attitudes or actions of the individual or his/her family
endanger the unity or reputation of the school and/or endanger the rights of other
homeschoolers.
21. Failure to comply with the enrollment requirements
stated herein will result in application denial or dismissal from North Alabama
Christian School.
22. As required by Alabama Code 16-28-7, North Alabama
Christian School will notify the local school Superintendent of any termination of
enrollment.
23. The Administration, after consultation with the
Mastin Lake Road church of Christ elders and North Alabama Christian School faculty,
may make modifications to this ministry as deemed necessary or appropriate.
