Nano-Mate

Hosted in a modified Streamlight Key-Mate flashlight, it is small enough to fit comfortably into almost any pocket, or on a key ring, or even hang around your neck on a lanyard (included). Small size, light weight, bright and reliable operation will make this an indispensable illumination tool for hiking, camping, and other outdoor activities where equipment must be carried. Pilots, policemen and others will find its small size, bright output, and long run time attractive as a source of illumination for cockpits, paper work, and other such activities that must performed after dark.

The Nano-Mate uses the new EOS process Luxeon LED for bright, smooth light output that maintains it's color tint from the center of the beam to the edge of the corona. Unlike other tiny LED lights, you won't find yourself distracted by color variations in the output beam. The broad beam of light produced by the Nano-Mate allows you to actually see what's around you without having to constantly point a small spot of light at items of interest like other flashlights force you to do.
Don't be fooled by it's small size. Unlike most LED flashlights, the Nano-Mate has real throw to it's powerful beam. A supper efficient DC/DC converter circuit and select grade Luxeon LED combine to produce amazing light from this tiny flashlight. This is one little flashlight that won't leave you in the dark.

Care and Feeding of the Nano-Mate

The Nano-Mate uses a very thin aluminum sleeve (0.15mm) to adapt the N cell and provide a negative contact for the LED Pill. The aluminum sleeve is very fragile and can be easily damaged through mistreatment. Never apply excessive force when installing batteries. The sleeve will stay in the battery tube under normal conditions. This modified flashlight has been tested with Radio Shack, Duracell, and Energizer N cell batteries. It is possible that other brands may have larger diameters and not function properly. If the battery does not easily slide into the flashlight, DO NOT force it into the flashlight. You may have a very hard time getting it back out later.
Once the battery is installed into the battery tube, the Luxeon Pill should be installed into the head assembly. Carefully screw the head on to the battery tube.

Note: When changing batteries, be careful that the LED Pill does not get lost. Do not attempt to change batteries while riding horse back, or in other non-stable environments. Battery replacement is best done on a table or counter top where all parts can be easily kept track of, so nothing gets lost or damaged.

As you screw together the flashlight, be very careful that the LED Pill does not catch on the lip of the battery tube. This may happen when the o-ring is still visible. DO NOT force the flashlight together. If resistance is felt at this point, loosen the head assembly and try again. It is normal for the light to come on briefly during the assembly process. Again, DO NOT apply excessive force when assembling the flashlight as you may damage the LED Pill or battery sleeve.
When the LED Pill is properly centered in the battery tube, the o-ring will no longer be visible. Continue to tighten the head until the light comes on and resistance is felt; this is the "ON" position with the head screwed all the way down. DO NOT apply excessive force to the head assembly. Screwing the head down with too much force may distort the top of the battery sleeve making it difficult to remove the battery later. To turn the flashlight "OFF", loosen the head assembly 1/2 to 1 full turn.
The Nano-Mate will provide you with hours of light under normal intermittent use, and will provide approximately 30 minutes of continuous run time. After continious use, the battery will supply more light if allowed to rest for a few hours. Alkaline N cells have a high internal resistance and provide best service in intermittent use.

However, NiCd/NiMh rechargeable N cell batteries may be used, and typically will provide better service under continuous use due to their lower internal resistance than alkaline cells.

Note: Use of excessive force when turning the light on may distort the top edge of the battery sleeve. This may result in the aluminum sleeve sliding out with the battery when attempting to change batteries. Handle the aluminum battery sleeve with care. Use a tooth pick to push the battery out of the aluminum sleeve half way. Then carefully roll the lip of the aluminum sleeve on a hard surface using the battery to reform and smooth the top edge of the aluminum sleeve. The battery should then slide out without difficulty. Handle the aluminum sleeve very carefully and re-insert it into the flashlight battery tube. Do not distort the aluminum tube or batteries may not slide in and out easily in the future.
