Servants of Heaven
Divine Spellcasters
Divine spellcasters know every spell available to their class as a prayer to their diety. Casting of divine spells is a result of channeling divine energy through prayer. Divine spellcasters do not memorize spells, nor are they limited as to amount. However, spellcasting can be a fatiguing activity, and much spellcasting will tire a priest.
Classes and descriptions are organized by patron diety. See as description of the faiths here .
Erik
In Rjurik, all the priests who serve Erik are known as druids. There
is nominally one druidical organization, but in practice the Emerald Spire
and the Oaken Grove operate as two distinct organizations. These
two sects are not in direct conflict, and limit their competition to within
the courts of the jarls and kinnings. The most common type of priest
among the druids is the Galdar. Like all druids, the Galdar regard Erik as protector of nature
and giver of the secrets of the Spirit World, but they focus on his role
as protector of nature. The next most common servant of Erik are the
Skalds
. The Skalds are a sect of itinerant teachers and healers
who are a repository of Rjurik history and culture. This knowledge
is usually preserved orally in the form of verse or song. Skalds
are often trusted to carry messages, act as ambassadors, and settle disputes.
Skalds focus on Erik's role as the patron of the Rjurik people.
Found most commonly in the cities are the
Gothi
. They are a relatively new practice of priestcraft for Erik, having
developed after the Rjurik began to settle in cities. Most Gothi
live in urban temples and perform ritals and teach for the urban Rjurik
to maintain their link to and understanding of nature and Erik's purpose.
The least common form of druid is the seidhr
. The seidhr focus on Erik's gift of knowledge of the Spirit World.
They are familiar with travels in the Spirit World and combat dangers from
other worlds, including the Shadow World.
Erik does not favor one kind of priest over the other, and all caster levels
stack for the purpose of divine spellcasting. The first class a character
takes is his primary class, and he knows the spell list of that class.
That character may learn other spells from other practices as a spell one
level higher than its standard form.
Paladin of Erik - Standing outside the official organization of druids are the rangers. They are warriors with a special regard for Erik. They have skills, abilities, and powers suited to Erik's forest realm. Rangers are included in the counsils of druids, especially in matters of war with humanoids and between realms, and in matters of abuse of the forest.
Druids of Ruornil
- Concerned more with mystic places and the Shadow World than druids of Erik,
these priests of Ruornil are nevertheless allies of Erik's priests and those
who make their home in Rjurik lands acknowledge the authority of either the
Emerald Spire or the Oaken Grove.
Cleric of Haelyn
- On the southern shores of the Taelshore, the temples of the Northern
Imperial Temple and Haelyn's Bastion of Truth provide those Anuirean
realms with spiritual guidance according to Haelyn's doctrine. In
Rjurik lands, priests of Haelyn are specialists of law and appear in some
royal courts as natural allies of kings. Most lawpriests in Rjurik
are advocates of Holn's Companionship, the doctrine that Holn and Erik's
doctrines can be synthesized as a complete guide to human action.
Cleric of Nesirie
- Wherever coasts support fishmen or sailors, there is at least some reverence
to Nesirie, or Narikja, as the Rjurik know her. The priestesses of
Nesirie are always female. They get along well with the druids of Erik
and the priests of Haelyn. While the priestesses of Nesirie regard
the lawpriests of Haelyn to be allies, their relationship with the druids
is made amicable by the fact that their spheres of interest are so clearly
marked at the shore.
Cleric of Eloéle - Few temples exist to the Sister of Thieves, and her clerics are corespondingly rare, but their are a few in the Taelshore. Her clerics are nearly all female. Eloéle is virually unknown in Rjurik lands, except among the skalds of Lara and the druids of Lirorn. Interestingly, the skalds regard her as an unredeemable evil, while the druids of Lirorn mostly just ignore her. In Anuire, her agents are sometimes found in temples of Sera.
Cleric of Karesha -The Ice Lady is regarded as a hostile power in the Taelshore, so her priestesses conceal themselves.
Druid of Karesha - The Ice Lady's druids blight the land with ice and permifrost. They are attuned to nature, but its an artic nature to be sure.
Cleric of Kirken -
