Hi Patty,

Okay, I guess it's my turn to finally sign this book. I am so jealous you're still traveling. Life in the real world is highly over-rated, take my advice, keep going...!! Had a wicked time with you in Africa, won't forget all the toilet stops on the overland, rafting on the Zambezi and fighting off all those animals in South Africa (on our safari of course!!).

Keep having loads of fun. Maybe we'll meet in South America later....?

Cheers for now,

Debbie

Teresa is cool...Just kidding. Umm well being the second Australian signer here i thought i might raise the standard of writing by adding my own thoughts. Teresa is back. She's been to both a League and AFL game in the last fortnight...i've never been to neither. The tales of your travels are quite entertaining for this unchallenged university student. Just wondering, where are the photos of our fair country? Rumour has it that you have journeyed these shores. Best of luck on your future travels and may the sun shine brightest on he who looks at it longest.

Hi Patty. I am writing for the second time and am still just as amazed with your trip as I was when I first started following your adventures. I saw Teresa briefly while she was back in I.C. She showed me the pictures and told me how much fun she had. As I read your sight now, I think one of the coolest things is your guestbook and how your adventure touches people all over the world whether they've met you or not. Day 330 as I read the updates and still no stopping! It is truly amazing and the sight is great for the rest of us to live vicariously through you.

Dear Patty,

So, you are in Scotland??? Don't tell me you went there to visit the castle where Madonna got married! (For the ones who don't know, Patty is a Madonna fan. We managed to watch on CNN her latest concert while we were in one of the most beautiful states of India...)
Hope life is treating you nicely. Bisous, C

Hi Patty and Teresa,

it took me quite a few days to get on your site but I hope you haven't forgotten me meanwhile.
First: congratulations to your site! It is really good and reading about all your "adventures" gets me a bit jealous, but nevertheless I will read it all!

We are on our way to Hanoi, which we reach tomorrow by flight and then there is just about a week to go. As I could see, you (Patty) are already in Thailand and I wish you all the best for the rest of your trip. If you ever come to the Northern part of Germany, you're always welcome (you remember my bathing tub .......).

Take care and travel safe!

Teresa, you've got a seperate mail. I hope you had a nice travel back home (fortunately you were guided most of the way), and I'm looking forward to hearing from you again!

Warmest regards

I am glad to see that you are still enjoying the adventures of exploring the world. Visiting your web-site tonight, it looks like you heading towards the end of your expedition. If you ever feel like "hopping" over to the African Continent again, don't forget to visit as at the southern point of it.

Your website is indeed very interesting. I did not have a chance to look at it too closely, but I will do it as soon as I am with a better internet connection.

It was very nice to meet you in Mysore. Hope your 18-hour train trip from Bangalore to Kerala was not too tiring. I spent 3 beautiful days by the Golf of Bengal and am now in Trivandrum. Shall we meet again? If not, I wish you all the best in your future adventures. Let's keep in touch. Catherine.

Hey Patty! What an amazing site! Thanks again for surprising me that Friday and taking me with you on a tour of Soweto. It's strange touring your own backyard (well, okay, few-million-strong township!). I wish you'd stayed longer so I could have shown you Joburg... Oh well. Still, it is quite surreal meeting a fellow traveller back in your home city/country (I met Patty in Budapest, and funny enough, we were in Prague around the same time, both doing a TEFL course, but only met later).

All the best Patty, and I hope I'm still here when you come back to visit.

I finally got around to seeing your website. It's so wonderful and so much easier than trying to show pictures and explain everything to everyone at home! Hey Patty
It was great meeting you, and I think you show that the proof of the spirit is not in the dreaming, but in the doing. May you enjoy your Masters Degree in Life, that you are taking in the University of the World. It will allways stand you in good stead. And your acknowledgement will not be on paper, but written in your heart and mind.

I am downright jealous.

Please put an account number on your website, so that we can send you donations to assist you, and maybe you can use 50% of what we give to better the cicumstances of the people with whom you mingle and who you see, and 50% to upgrade your nightly bed from a rock to a mattress. Will you do that for us? This will give all of us the chance to reach out and make a difference in the lives of people we do not know, and who's plight is unseeable to us, and therefore uncared for by us. You can be our eyes and give us chance to make a small difference in the life of a child somewhere in Africa or Asia.

PLease do that for us.

Patty:
It really is great to read about your adventure. Just a couple words of warning: careful with how you perceive the other "wonderful" cultures. Your comments on how the Eastern Europeans are so "non-materialistic" surprised me somewhat. As one who can speak from experience, upon meeting young ladies in Eastern Europe, the first question was always, "How much money do you make, what kind of car do you drive, etc...". Possibly a function of the previous communistic regimes, as opposed to their own shortcomings.

I speak objectively, of course, when I say that America is the greatest country in the history of the world-- sometimes it seems we can lose our point of reference when we are lucky enough to be a direct part of something so amazing. One only need to realize the number of people who die every year just trying to get to our country, to realize our good fortune.

Seeing the world is great, but don't lose sight of your roots, your family and the unbelievable country in which you were raised. I love to visit other places and have lived in Asia and Europe, and think they are great. But be careful you don't confuse escapism with a different form of reality.

This is so exciting, Patty, to see what you're doing. From my brief travels (Rome, London, Paris), I saw too that there are a lot of good things about USA, but a lot of not-so-good things, too, like the rush!, the buy-buy-buy, the inhumane vacation time, the crime rate, especially with guns, etc. We do have lots of neat material stuff, though; that's for sure. Tom felt we belonged in Paris, but I'd love to live in the old section of Rome - if I had lots and lots and lots of $$$$$.

Friends from Mexico just visited us after ten days in Greece, and they said the same things you do: the yogurt was so creamy and absolutely delicious and the Aegean Sea was absolutely gorgeous - as blue as the pictures. It sounds like that may be where you want to spend most of your time. Is there anyway that I could finance one cup of coffee a day for you? I don't want you to deny yourself that very delicious addiction!

Someone told us to visit Prague as a sampling of a true old European city. Where are all the Czechs, if all you saw were tourists? Maybe they're in Iowa! Good luck with the teaching; it's so true that you can get consumed with all the heavy-duty planning you have to do to prepare - and I think of myself as a spontaneous person. A good teacher is an organized teacher, though!

You mentioned the glorious single moments that you'll remember always. Tom finds this, too, in backpacking. You forget all the work and sweat you went to for that one glorious view or experience. Sounds like it's worth it for the experience, though.

Patty, next time you have a photo taken in a two-piece swimming suit, be sure to put on a beach robe first. Okay?
Love, love, love Sandy

Hey Patty. How's travels? I looked at your itinerary and didn't see London. Bummer. Definately look me up if you make it here. Best by email. Free couch!

The big news is that I'm engaged. Janna Murphy, a Bostonian who's been here for about 4 years. Met...guess how...swing dancing of course. She's a wonderful dancer and even more amazing person. We're off to Chicago next week to introduce her around and I'm bummed you won't be there.

Best wishes on all your travels.

Live it up.

Hi Patty

A quick note from your Australian friends from Samos and Kusadasi, and more importantly first hand witnesses of your bellydancing talents.
We love the site and completely agree with all your observations on Greece and Turkey. The guy who owns this Istanbul internet cafe has just given us apple tea and told us he will take us to his uncle's carpet shop. Does this bring back memories?
We have spent 1.3 billion lira in our time in Turkey. We are Turkish billionaires.
Look forward to dancing up a storm with you in Prague.

I work with your dad and know your mom. I was talking to your dad one morning and asked about your brother in Uzbekistan(sp.) and he told me that he had another child trapsing about the glode and told me about the website. Good luck on your Journey, the day he told me about this was the same day a warning was issued to all americans abroad because of the trial of the alledged world trade center bomber and possible retaliations. Keep a low profile was one of the things the warning said to do, I don't think you'll meet that criteria. I had to join the navy to see the world many years ago but it was fun, I hope your experience is a good one. we are becoming a very plural society here as you probably know, your travel experience will help you adapt to the US when you get back, see if you can talk dad into joining you.
