It's official.  I have a 1 year old.  Even now, she's surprising me daily with all the new things she can do.  She knows when we're proud of her and giggles and hugs herself (and us) when we praise her.  Today is a good example.

I've been trying the occasional baby sign since Kaci was about 8 months, but never got any kind of imitation or anything. About 2 months ago, she started imitating us and doing what we do, so I thought I'd try again with a few consistent signs. Mainly, "All Done"

Last night, I was changing her diaper and she got mad at me, and kept throwing her hands up as if to say "All Done". I thought she signed it, and told George and he thought maybe it was just a fluke.

Today at lunch, I said "Kaci do you want more rice??" She shook her head no

"Do you want more corn?"

Shook her head no

"What about meat?"

Shook her head no and then motioned "All Done"

I can't believe I'm already planning my daughter's first birthday party.  This is the first children's party I've ever had to plan.  I've bought the goodie bags, reserved the cake, planned games, reserved the room, and sent out the invitations.  Now I just have to figure out what my daughter is getting for her birthday from us!  We're thinking of taking her to BuildaBear and making her own teddy bear but I've also thought of books, clothes, etc as Kaci has plenty of toys.

Her party is a week before her birthday for scheduling purposes.  George and I plan to spend her ACTUAL birthday with her doing whatever she wants.

Kaci's pointing at things now as if to ask "what's this" and imitates so much we do!  The other day, I was blowing bathtub bubbles out of my hand and saw her doing the same.   She's climbing into the tub on her own too, now, which means we have to be more cautious when she's in the bathroom.

She's also such a big helper!  Last night, we spilled her hair binders all over her bedroom floor.  We got on the floor and together picked them up and put them back in their container.  Really truely she helped put them away!  I was pretty proud of her :)

Kathryn is now walking like a champ and has given up the crawling thing all together.  I suppose she's concluded that crawling is for babies.  This year was Kaci's First Christmas.  She received clothing, blocks, stuffed toys, stocking stuffers (like her first toothbrush) and a homemade toybox from Nannie and Papa who came up to celebrate with us.

She also received a toy push along car from Mommy and Daddy with a flip seat for storage underneath.  Kaci learned how to store her toys under her seat while on the go in her little car.  This lifting lids to put her toys (particularly her new stuffed puppy) in compartments intrigued her and she took it upon herself to try this theory out in the bathroom.  By golly the theory worked there.  SO DID TAKING THE SOPPY PUPPY OUT OF THE TOILET!  WOW!  She was so proud of her discovery!!  Mommy and Daddy, in the meantime, have discovered that there are such things as clasps to hold down the toilet lid.

Patty cake is Kaci's new favorite game.  She tenses up just before we get to the part where she gets tickled.

Kathryn had the pleasure this past week to visit Marshall Fields' Snow White Christmas display (TWICE!) and was intrigued by every minute of it.  Pictures of her visits are in her photo album.

Plans have started for Kaci's first birthday.  I suspect I will be getting the invites in the mail in about 2 weeks.  Lord help me.!

My little girl is growing up.  She always hits her milestones in waves, but this time, she's hit two big ones at once!!

I came home from work on Wednesday night to be greeted by a very excited little girl... who walked to me!!  To double check to make sure it wasn't by accident, I encouraged her to do it repeatedly, and she did... six more times.

Today, the only thing my daughter has been 'delayed' on has surfaced.  Her first and second teeth are starting to pop through (FINALLY!).

It's also dawning on me that in 3 months from today, I'll have a 1 year old.

I'm so proud of my little girl!  She learned a new skill today!  George was washing dishes when he heard one of her toys go off over and over and over again...  You put the balls through a little hole on this toy to make the music happen (See website: http://www.babyscholars.com/babyscholars/tilomustpl.html)  Kaci had figured out how to put a small ball through a 2" hole, which takes some pretty good hand-eye coordination! :)

Finally, I have moved Kathryn's webpage back over to our server.  I decided that since I was already paying for this webspace, I might as well create a page that has everything I am wanting on it!

Unfortunately, however, when I moved Kaci's webpage to here, I lost all previous news entries.

Kaci is doing well.  She's been ill the past couple weeks with Roseola Virus and then a cold.  Just over the past 3 days, she's been herself again.

Our little girl is growing up!  She's challenging herself every day and is recently enjoying the fact that she can stand on her own... without holding on to anything!  Today she took a step.  Whether it was to balance herself or move forward, it was still a step according to her mommy.  Additionally, she used her musical walker for the first time today successfully!  She was so proud of herself as she zoomed across the floor independently!  I imagine it won't be long now before she's walking by herself!
