(Near) Future Projects:
Jonsboat (as yet unnamed):
While work continues on refitting Rogue, I am looking ahead to the rapidly-approaching Fall, and the day when my boatbuilding/working activities will have to move indoors. My wife and I have noticed an increased interest in fishing, and I thought that it would be great to have a pure fishing boat in our fleet. While we have fished aboard Jubilee, it would also be helpful to have a boat we can use on the local "10 h.p. or less" lakes in our area. The boat I chose is the "Jonsboat," a Jim Michalak design.
And here are a couple of photos of Jonsboats built by others:
Since my wife is the real fisherperson in the family, this will be her boat, and she will have final word on setup, appearance and naming. It will be interesting to see what she comes up with!
Arwen--the daysailer
After the Jonsboat, the next "from scratch" building project will be a 16 ft. plywood sailboat. While Mystique is still "Queen of the Fleet," she is just too large for the smaller lakes in our immediate vicinity, and the 1 hr. minimum launch and recovery times (added to the hour-plus travel time to either the Illinois or Mississippi rivers) makes using her as a daysailer a real chore. Bluebie, on the other hand, is just too small, even for just one adult. Like Goldilocks and the Three Bears, one is too large, the other is too small, but I'm hoping that Arwen will be just right to fill the gap in our sailing fleet.
