Digital SLR photography for beginners

Section A: Thursdays March 4, 11, 18 6:30-8 p.m. $199  FULL

Section B: Mondays April 5, 12, 19  6:30-8 p.m. $199

Serendipity Studio

In this class, you will learn about aperture, shutter speed, manual settings, and how they all contribute to the final look of your photograph. You will learn how, when and why to override the decisions the camera makes for you, to get the look YOU are trying to achieve.

You need: your digital SLR camera (this is a camera that can change lenses and has the capability to choose your own manual settings.) There will be small weekly assignments, class Q&A and helpful critique. You will need a way to load some of your digital files and email them to me for weekly learning and discussion.

If you want to learn but do not have the appropriate equipment, ask me about rental options.

THIS CLASS IS LIMITED TO 5 STUDENTS.

Take Better Photos of Your Kids!

Thursday Class: April 8, 15, 22 6:00-7:00 p.m. $199

Students are invited to a photography practice field trip with Jen at the MN Landscape Arboretum on Saturday, April 17 at 11:30 a.m. Bring your camera and your favorite subject! (kid)

You should have a basic understanding of how your SLR camera works to get the most out of this class. Beginners are welcome, but you will benefit greatly by knowing manual settings skills and a bit about aperture and shutter speed. We will be working with mostly natural light, outdoor and natural settings, and "Lifestyle" type portraiture rather than stiff poses. For examples of this style of children's photography, visit our portrait site: www.serendipitylifeimages.com

We will go over: lighting, angles and composition techniques, lens choices, ways to engage your subject, and in-class gentle critique of your assignments.

EACH CLASS IS LIMITED TO 5 STUDENTS. All students will be invited on the practice field trip. In the case of inclement weather, we will try to reschedule for Sunday the 18th.

Take this class alone, or back to back with Digital Photoggraphy for Beginners! If you take this alone, you should already have working knowledge of the topics in the Beginner class: aperture, shutter speed, manual settings, etc.

This class will be about making choices to develop a style all your own. We will go over art and photography samples, and discuss lens choices, angles, and post-processing techniques (i.e. Photoshop) used to create a signature "look."
