Erwin-Mergers are nothing new in the nearly 100-year history of railroading in the mountains of Upper East Tennessee, Southwest Virginia and the Blue Ridge. But now a merger will wipe out one of the region's dominate railroad names, the Clinchfield, itself born in a merger on January 1, 1925
