Text Box: Happy Halloween! Time to get ready now. It looks like there may be a shortage of pumpkins this year. Halloween is getting more popular every year, gives us a chance to dress up and let off some steam by being the monster of our choice.

Bouchercon 2009 is coming up this month also. I plan on having some pictures to put in the newsletter for next month. I may even do a special issue. Time will probably be a factor, as it is for everything anymore.

Text Box: Know your weapons! Non-Lethal Ray Gun
Text Box: The National Institute of Justice has provided a limited description of a radiofrequency weapon being developed by Raytheon at Palo Alto, California, which appears to be based on a similar concept to the Active Denial System weapon that Raytheon developed for the US marines in 2001. The military version is designed to heat people's skin with a 95-gigahertz Text Box: microwave beam. With a range of 600 meters, it causes severe pain but, according to Raytheon, no damage. The NIJ has contracted the company to build a prototype suitable for use by police forces. Because it will be portable, it will presumably use less power and work over a shorter range.
