Nice to see a little green showing on our lawns. *** I was trying a recipe that called for Saffron, so I ran out to Penzey’s Spices to buy some. It’s one of my favorite stores, by the way. The clerk there was very helpful and he told me some things about Saffron that I hadn’t known, such as, the Saffron Crocus flower, that Saffron comes from, can be grown right here in Iowa. The harvesting of the “threads”, or Stigmas of the flowers is a very delicate process, and it takes a lot of flowers to produce enough to make an ounce.
