South Point

Ka Lae, or "the point," is our nation's most southerly piece of real estate. The 32-ft pole behind us is a marine navigational marker that stands near the tip of South Point. It was a gorgeous day and every bit as breezy as we were warned it would be. I was pleased at how well this photo turned out. You can't always be sure that the stranger you ask to use your camera will get the shot right and not cut off the tops of your heads or your feet, or BOTH!

The panoramic view of the coastline from the top of this seaside cliff was spectacular. There were a few people pole-fishing nearby. Ulua and 'ahi are common in the area and even an occasional marlin could be caught. That structure at the top of the cliff, upper right in the photo, is one of the hoists built into the cliffs to service the small crafts that anchor in the lee of the point.

Btw, the photographer did get all of our feet into this photo. It was the FILM LAB that cropped them out when they made the print! Ya just can't win.
