!BIRTH: Lois Nobel obtained birth from gravestone.
!MARRIAGE: md. to Catherine who married John F. Lawrence after
George's death.
!DEATH: Gravestone, Millsborough Cemetery. Lois said the date of the month on
the stone was not legible but the death date showed 28 --- 1845.
George had a son Jesse V. b. 1844, and a son Samuel R. Bumgarner and a daughter
Mary E. who married Henry Clay Baker, sometimes spelled Becker.
Will of George W. Bumgarner:
In the name of God Amen I George Bumgarner being weak in body but of sound mind
and memory in view of the uncertainty of life and the certainty of death and
the better regulation of my worldly and domestick affairs do make my last will
and Testament in manner and form as follows viz. lst I desire that my personal
propety be sold with the exception of so much of it and otherwise bequeath
and that my funeral expenses and all my just debts be paid out of the proceeds
thereof. 2d I give and bequeath to my beloved wife Catharine Bumgarner one of
my mares her choice, one cow her choice, three hogs, six sheep her side saddle
and grain and meat sufficient to do her and her family until the next crop
after my decease is gathered in 3d I give and bequeath to my beloved wife
Catharine Bumgarner the house in which I now reseide with as much of the
furniture therein as she chooses to keep untill my son Samuel arrives at the
age of twenty one years, should he at that time make choice of the division of
Land on which the house stands. I authorize the Guardian here after named to
build a small house on the other division for the use of my wife and children
and to make other improvements necessary to make them comfortable, or he may
two years previous to my son Samuels majority build such house and the
provisions made for my beloved wife Catharine Bumgardner in this third section
of my last will and Testament are to continue while she remains my widow. 4th
It is my will and desire that my land be divided by a line across the same to
run in such a manner as to strike a tree at the head of the third row from the
south side of my orchard which apple tree is marked with axe marks and to bring
in range with the said apple tree or as nearly as it can be done a red oak and
large white oak on the hill in the woods ---of said orchard both of which trees
are marked with axe marks the line to terminate westward at land of Andrew
Alexanders and eastward at the road near Millsborough I value my land at twenty
five dollars per acre and I give and bequeath the remainder of my estate Real
and personal be divided equally amongst my four children Samuel Robert
Bumgarner, Jesse Bumgarner, Mary Elizabeth Bumgarner and Matilda Bumgarner
except one third part of the interest on the valuation of the Real estate to be
paid annually to my beloved wife Catharine Bumgarner commencing when my sons
respectivly arrive at the age of twenty one years and continuing until she
remains my widow. 6th. It is my will and desire that my sons take the land at
the valuation made by me herein as they arrive at the age of twenty one years &
I order and direct & that my two daughters be paid their shares of the land in
payments of one hundred dollars per annum till pd. 7th I do hereby nominate
Benjamin Leonard a Guardian of my family during the minority of my children to
manage and direct their affairs to superintend the land and apply the proceeds
for the support, benefit and profit until the shares be taken by my sons as
they each arive at the age of twenty one years. 8th I nominate Nimrod Grable
executor of this my last Will and Testament. George W. Bumgarner

He was a soldier in the Florida war with the Indians

He was naturalized at Lancaster, Pennsylvannia on the 28th of August, 1838,
under the both spellings of McNab and Macnab. I have heard his military
service listed him as McNabb, and it was too much trouble to change that.
I have a photocopy of his citizenship paper.
