This
is the updated set of rules for the event. It is a little different than last
year so read it carefully. Of course they are subject to change.
I will start with the new class cost breakdown. This is the cost of the drivers
and crossovers only.
Super Budget 0 to 150
Budget 151 to 350
Midrange 351 to 700
Unlimited 701 and up
We will take more breaks, one after each class. Most likely a 20 to 30 minute
break and a 1 hour lunch. We WILL start promptly after the breaks.
Active systems will go after a break to help with setup time even if they run
"out of order".
The music will stay the same setup wise, 5 or 6 pre-selected tracks followed by
4 minutes of the designer’s choice. The pre-selected tracks may be different
than in 2006, 2007 and 2008.
Entries will be limited to about 20
pairs of speakers. That's 5 hours of play time plus 2 hours for breaks and
lunch. The rest of the time will be used for the door prizes and announcing the
winners.
I will make all calls on what speakers get time and what ones don't. I will use
some basic criteria to make these decisions.
1. All new designs and ones that have not been to the Iowa event will get first
priority.
2. Anyone bringing speakers MUST tell me what they are bringing and what class
it will compete in (see below).
3. Repeats from the previous years will be the first excluded if we have to
exclude any. I will only exclude speakers as a last resort, after all this is
about having a good time.
If people want to do some AB testing after the regular event I am good with
that but it will NOT have any impact on who is declared the winner.
I am going to leave the listener feedback forms as they are. The winners will
be determine from these forms and all scores will be posted on the website
after the event.
New
this year we will most likely have a second room set up for casual listening.
So if you want to bring a set of speakers that aren't in the show feel free to do
so. This change comes about because of the large number of speakers that people
want to bring and display is just too large to show them all in the formal
event.
If
you are bringing speakers to the event I need some basic information.
Your
name.
The
name of your speakers.
The
cost of drivers and crossovers for a pair of speakers.
Any
other information you wish to provide is also welcome. IE drivers, crossover
topology and point(s), box size, you get the idea.
Also
if you will not be able to attend please let me know so I can give your spot to
someone else.
