The meeting was held at the Eastern Iowa Airport in Cedar Rapids.
It began with a presentation by Ray Wolf who spoke on terminal forecasts,
how they are prepared and used. He also handed out materials that explained
the coding used in the forecasts and examples of what terminal forecasts
(also called FT’s) look like. We also had a presentation by Charles Rhoades
of PS Air on how pilots use weather data for flight planning. All students
at PS Air are taught to avoid bad weather.

The business meeting began at 11:05 AM. Scott reviewed the minutes
from the June meeting and Doug described some of research apparatus we
saw. At the June meeting it was brought up that we still need a vice-president
and decided we did not need an election official for our upcoming election.
Scott made the motion that we hold off on the election and collection
of dues until our by-laws are official. Ron B. seconded. We still have
not heard back from national headquarters. The election and collection
of dues will be done at the November meeting.
Scott will continue to send out the e mail about the meetings. He
is also interested in any weather-related material that other members may
have that can be forwarded to all the other members. The Central Iowa Chapter
is passing along everything that happens in our chapter and we will do
likewise for their chapter.
It was suggested we do a winter weather program for our next meeting.
The next meeting will be held at the National Weather Service office
in Davenport on Saturday, November 13, 1999 at 10:30 AM. A car pool will
leave from KGAN-TV in Cedar Rapids at 9:15 AM.
There was no new business. The business meeting adjourned at 11:30
AM.
The business meeting was followed by a tour of the radar room and
control tower hosted by Tim Sheffield. The members split into two groups
and spent about one hour in the tower getting detailed explanations of
the airport operations. This proved to be very enjoyable for everyone.
Meeting notes from Doug Beadle.
