Illowa Chapter of the National Weather
Association Serving Eastern Iowa and
Northwest Illinois
January 20, 1999 Minutes
***Minutes from our first meeting were quite informal as was the meeting setting***
We began with introductions: The following 7 attended the meeting: Daniel McWhinney, Doug Beadle, Jim Meyer and Jeff Zog - DVN NWS, Dave Towne - KGAN-TV, Joe Winters and Scott Lind Drzycimski - KCRG-TV.
We discussed ideas for the future of this chapter. Several were mentioned. We also discused the advantages of having a local group like this one.
National membership forms were passed out. New members dues for the year are 25 dollars. National organization membership is not manditory for local chapter members, but is encouraged. Anyone wishing to be an officer for our local chapter in the future, must be a national member.
Much time was spent discussing the future constitution and by-laws of this chapter. We have decided to call ourselves the "Illowa Chapter" of the NWA. We dicussed nessesary officers and committiees and their duties and requirements. It was decided to push back officer elections atleast another meeting or two, until we can get a larger number of people to attend and we have ratified our by-laws.
Several in attendance gave suggestions for new people to invite. These included EM's, other TV/Radio stations, college students and professors, Civil Air Patrol and any co-workers.
It was decided that we would have another organizational/planning meeting in February and then start a bussiness/program meeting format in March.
Information was offered on the Les Lemon Doppler Radar Training Course and Severe Storms and Doppler Radar Conference both in Des Moines. These are both projects of the Central Iowa NWA chapter.
Our next meeting is set for February 10, 1999 at the KGAN studios: 600 Old Marion Rd. NE in Cedar Rapids. The meeting will begin at 7:00 pm. Future meetings will be moved around the area and be held at various times to help court different attendees. Shall we plan for snacks at future meetings?
The meeting was adjourned and a few people went for a tour of KCRG.
